Arlesey 1-2 Sawbridgeworth 18/2/07 Arlesey may have lost the points but this was a very entertaining game, played between two very evenly matched sides. Both attacks were being thwarted by well marshaled defences, so chances were thin on the ground. Arlesey, three times were denied by the impressive Sawbo goalie but it was Sawbo who took the lead, the big No.8 out muscling the last defender & slotted the ball past Gurpy. The second half was contested with the same passion as the first & probably against the run of play, Arlesey equalised, Mike Ricketts somehow finding the net from the tightest of angles. Arlesey were now having the lion’s share of possession but Sawbo were always dangerous on the break, again the Sawbo keeper was keeping Arlesey out at bay & with 10 mins to go a corner somehow managed to find the net. Arlesey pushed it all the way for the final 10 but it wasn’t to be. A great effort by the lads but Liam Murray took Man of the Match, just edging out Mike & Gary who both had fine games. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, C. Anderson, R. Hodgkiss, S. King, S. Flint, A. Wilson, M. Ricketts, L. Knight, L. Murray, J. Osborne, I. Tonkin, G. Howard, T. Blake Report by Trevor Flint |

Arlesey 2-0 St Neots 4/2/07 Arlesey huffed & puffed their way to 3 points against a very hard working St. Neots side. On a boggy pitch football was hard to play & the physical element came more & more into the play. Arlesey did get off to a flyer, Mike Ricketts superb turn and fierce drive beat the keeper, but Arlesey lost their way and the game was predominantly being played in the middle of the park, each team struggling to pierce the opposite defence. The second half saw Arlesey score early again, Liam Knight’s superb 25 yarder straight into the roof of the net, but again Arlesey struggled to dominate. Arlesey had 4 or 5 great chances to add to the tally, but in the end had to be grateful to Gurps with two outstanding pieces of goalkeeping keeping St. Neots out. This was a very hard fought victory for the side, no more typified than Sam King whose work rate was immense throughout the game & earning him Man of the Match. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, R. Hodgkiss, A. Wilson, T. Blake, C. Anderson, G. Howard, I. Tonkin, M. Ricketts, L. Knight, S. Flint, S. King Report by Trevor Flint |

Bishop Stortford Colts 2-1 Arlesey 28/1/07 With a bit of lady luck & gritty determination Arlesey held out for the first 10 mins, as Colts laid siege, but gradually the lads got into the game & were starting to push the Colts back but they went behind with an unfortunate own goal. The lads came back & two superb Jonesy balls to Ali just fell short of an equalizer. Half an hour gone & a superb move between Isaac, Ali & Liam Murray resulted in Isaacs superb 25 yarder beating the keeper. The second half was fiercely contested. Arlesey played their hearts out, but had to thank Gurpy for keeping them in the game with two superb saves. Unfortunately & not for the first time by this ref the game was taken away from the lads. With 4 minutes to go, a diabolical decision by the ref awarding a penalty, when he clearly never saw it! & to rub salt in the wound he ignored our linesman’s decision. Not a lot you can say to 13 distraught boys, this was a great game & they certainly did not deserve to loose, everyone was superb today, but Man of the Match went to Gurpy, who had an inspired game. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, T. Blake, C. Anderson, R. Dobson, A. Wilson, I. Tonkin, S. King, G. Howard, D. Jones, L. Murray, S. Flint, L. Knight Report by Trevor Flint |

Austen Arrowheads 2-2 Arlesey 7/1/07 In a match that had everything good about the game, Arlesey gained another well deserved point. After a frantic start by both teams the deadlock was opened by a superb Liam Murray run & cross which found Greg Howard at the far post, Howard’s fine right foot shot giving the goalie no chance, but within 10 mins Austen went 2-1 up. Both goals again were poor goals to give away, but it didn’t take long for the lads to get back on level terms, a fine solo run by Ali Wilson & low drive making it 2-2. Half time over, & Arlesey dominated the first 20 mins, but struggled in front of goal. Austen were always dangerous, no more than the No.10 who was causing a lot of problems, Arlesey had Ryan Dobson to thank for a great clearance off the line but with 5-10 mins to go Arlesey had 3 great chances to score themselves so 2-2 was probably a fair result. Liam Murray took M.O.M. again producing a superb display. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, R. Hodgkiss, R. Dobson, C. Anderson, L. Murray, G. Howard, M. Ricketts, G. Baker, S. King, A. Wilson, T. Blake, A. Atkins, S. Flint, D. Jones, L. Knight Report by Trevor Flint |

Arlesey 1-1 Potton Colts 3/12/06 This local derby saw Potton visit Arlesey; both teams attacked each other on a regular basis but struggled to pierce well organized defences. The game had become a bit scrappy, when suddenly Arlesey produced not only the goal of the game, but probably the goal of the season; Dan to Ali back to Ali who puts Dan Through, his superb cross was met by Liam Murray who coolly beat the keeper. The pattern of play continued throughout the second half with neither goalie being tested, but both teams putting a tremendous amount of work rate in. Unfortunately for Arlesey, Potton’s equalizer came from the penalty spot, the less said the better. So another point and both teams should be congratulated on their efforts. A good team performance but Sam King, playing against his old side just stood out, & deservedly took Man of the Match. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, R. Dobson, R. Hodgkiss, C. Anderson, G. Baker, S. King, L. Murray, A. Wilson, T. Blake, I. Tonkin, M. Ricketts, L. Knight, G. Howard, S. Flint, A. Atkins. Report by Trevor Flint |

Arlesey 3-1 Bishop Stortford Colts 19/11/06 Arlesey had to produce a real workman-like performance today against high flying Colts. The team played some lovely football in the first 20 mins & deservedly took the lead, Tyler’s fine through ball to Mike Ricketts, who’s well timed run saw him coolly chip the keeper. Liam Murray was causing all sorts of problems down the wing for the Colts defence & it was he who set up the second. His fine run & cross was half cleared to Mike, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net. A lapse of concentration allowed Colts back into the game with a soft goal just before half time. The second half started franticly, both sides looking to score the all important goal, and it was Arlesey who got it! A superb through ball to Mike, whose fine run again saw him outpace the defence & beat the goalie for a great hat trick. Stortford always looked dangerous on the attack & Arlesey were fortunate when the ref, blinded by the sun, missed a clear handball in the box, but the last 15 to 20 mins saw Arlesey dominate & with a bit of luck could have added to the score. This was a very pleasing performance; the lads worked very hard & overall deserved the 3 pts. Mike Ricketts took Man of the Match, not only for his hat trick but for his work rate as well, Liam Murray ran him close, well done lads. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, C. Anderson, T. Blake, A. Wilson, D. Jones, M. Ricketts, G. Howard, L. Murray, L. Knight, S. Flint, A. Atkins, I. Tonkin, S. King Report By Trevor Flint |

Austen Arrowheads 4-1 Arlesey 12/11/06 “A bad day at the Office” The day got off to a bad start when we all turned up at the wrong venue and had to follow the leader across Stevenage to a second ground, loosing three cars in the process. The match was delayed five minutes until all players were present and correct. The game started well with Arlesey having good spells of possession but unable to find that final ball. However it soon started to dawn on the Arlesey players and supporters that this was going to be an impossible game to win as the referee (their referee) was giving nothing our way. Tension rose as manager Flint was ordered off the park after questioning the ref about yet another dubious call. Dan Jones scored but shortly substituted after a crunching tackle on him, injured his knee What we witnessed here today was a farcical and inept display of refereeing with the linesman been overruled if it gave AA the advantage, An Arlesey lad sent off with little or no explanation and an AA penalty that left all scratching their heads. All the Arlesey lads did the club proud today in their conduct on the pitch, they came today to play football, and play football they did, looking far the better side throughout. This should have been a cracking game instead it was ruined by one man, an egotist that at any cost had to engineer a win for his team. Footnote to readers. This report may read like sour grapes but AA’s track record speaks for itself. |

Letchworth Yellows 1-1 Arlesey 5/11/06 Arlesey continued where they left off at Sawbo the previous week, totally dominating the game, but in the end having to settle with just a point. The first 20 mins saw Arlesey play some excellent football but all too often the final ball or poor finishing let them down. Letchworth to their credit were slowly getting into the game, but Gurpy was seldom called into action. The second half saw Letchworth score with probably their first serious move of the game, Arlesey responded well but the stubborn Letchworth defence kept them at bay. With 10 mins to go Arlesey went 3 at the back and finally with 5 mins to go a superb Ryan Dobson cross was met by Ali Wilson who headed past the keeper. As much as they tried, Arlesey could not add to the score & disappointedly had to settle with a point. Another good display from the boys, but Sam King again stood out in the middle, picking out the Man of the Match award. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, C. Anderson, T. Blake, A. Wilson, R. Dobson, K. Iacoponi, M. Ricketts, G. Howard, L. Murray, L. Knight, S. Flint, A. Atkins, I. Tonkin, S. King Report by Trevor Flint |

Sawbridgeworth 1-1 Arlesey 28/10/06 The long & what turned out, arduous journey to Sawbo saw the lads bring a point home but in truth with the amount of possession they enjoyed it was rather 2 pts dropped than a point earned. The first half action was totally dominated by the Blues & the movement & passing was a joy to watch, unfortunately too many chances were squandered. 0-0 at half time, but again the lads started the half brightly & for 60 mins I don’t think Gurpy had a save to make. But not for the first time this season the boys conceded a poor goal, the least said about it the better. It didn’t take long to get back on terms, a Ryan Dobson free kick was pushed onto the bar & Sam King reacted quicker than everyone else to tuck it away. It was always Arlesey who looked the likelier to win it but to no avail. The result was very frustrating, but the way the lads played was very pleasing. A good team performance, but Sam King was very dominant in the middle taking Man of the Match, & Liam Knight also caught the eye. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, T. Blake, C. Anderson, R. Dobson, S. King, A. Atkins, G. Howard, D. Jones, L. Murray, L. Knight, K. Iacoponi, M. Ricketts, A. Wilson, S. Flint |

Arlesey 3-0 Harlow Town 22/10/06 Newly promoted Harlow started very brightly & for the first 15 mins their passing & movement were first class, but it was Arlesey who created the best chance of the half, Kyle’s fierce shot went inches wide, Arlesey were gradually getting to grip with the Harlow midfield but it took an inspired substitution to break the deadlock. With 2 mins to go Liam Knight coming on & with his first touch he forced his way down the line, turned & unleashed a spectacular shot into the roof of the net, 1-0 at half time. The lads started the half attacking the Harlow defence & Kyle soon made it 2-0 with a snap shot. Liam Knight’s superb free kick made it 3-0 & Arlesey had wrapped up their first win of the season. This was the lad’s best display of the season, they were very disciplined in all areas today, but they were made to work hard by a very determined Harlow side. The game was played in a very good spirit & it was a shame it was spoilt by Harlow’s No.14 who’s opinion to a free kick awarded against him, will probably see him watching from the sidelines for the next 3 months. The team took the M.O.M. award this week, everyone playing their part today. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, T. Blake, R. Hodgkiss, C. Anderson, R. Dobson, A. Atkins, S. King, A. Wilson, G. Howard, S. Flint, K. Iacoponi, M. Ricketts, L. Knight. |

Arlesey 0-4 Hitchin 8/10/06 The visit of Hitchin was always going to be a hard task for the boys, but for 20 mins they matched them all over the pitch. But as in last years 2 meetings they seem to make horrendous mistakes against this side & they were made to pay going in 3-0 down at half time. The second half & again the lads gave as good as they got, Mike & Kyle were causing problems, twice the Hitchin keeper pulled off quality saves to deny Arlesey scoring. In the last minutes Hitchin scored their fourth. Over the 80 mins not a bad performance but as in the previous 3 games, mistakes are costing the team severely. Ryan Dobson was outstanding today and took Man of the Match & has started the season very well. Arlesey: S. King, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, C. Anderson, R. Dobson, S. Flint, D. Jones, G. Howard, A. Atkins, K. Iacoponi, T. Blake, A. Wilson, M. Ricketts, L. Knight, L. Murray Report by T Flint |

Arlesey A-A Austen Arrowheads Abandoned after 55 minutes due to Player Injury 24/9/06 Arlesey started very well & were causing Austen problems down the flanks & they deservedly took the lead when Ali Wilson’s superb throughball put Mike through, coolly beating the keeper. The game settled down & with both defences doing a fine job chances were very thin on the ground. The second half & Austen started the brighter with Arlesey struggling to get into the game, but after 55 mins a bad injury to a Austen player saw the game abandoned. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, C. Anderson, R. Hodgkiss, T. Blake, R. Dobson, A. Wilson, S. King, S. Flint, L. Knight, L. Murray, M. Ricketts, K. Iacoponi, G. Howard, G. Baker, A. Atkins Report by T Flint |

Royston Town 2-2 Arlesey 17/9/06 On a beautiful morning & a superb playing surface Arlesey unfortunately turned up with a depleted squad due to a mixture of reasons. Royston being one of the biggest sides in the league started brightly, & the defence had to be on their toes to keep them at bay. As the half wore on the boys got more & more into the game & were starting to give the home defence some problems of their own. With 30 mins gone and a rasping drive came by Liam Knight off the bottom of the bar only to be cleared, then Kyle could have scored but somehow put his header wide. But with 5 mins remaining a bad mistake at the back put Royston 1 up at half time. Arlesey started very brightly in the second half & started to dominate all over the pitch, 2 or 3 good chances went begging before Hodgy reacted quicker than most to put Arlesey level & then when new signing Ali Wilson put the Blues 2-1 up with 5 mins to go it looked like the points were sewn up but again a mistake at the back cost the boys, 2-2 a point but overall the boys deserved more. A very good game played with a good spirit by both sides. Man of the Match went to Liam Murray. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, S. King, T. Blake, C. Anderson, R. Hodgkiss, G. Howard, A. Wilson, L. Knight, L. Murray, S. Flint, K. Iacoponi, M. Ricketts Report By T Flint |

Arlesey 0-2 Stevenage Borough 10/9/06 The opening fixture paired Arlesey against past Div.1 champs Stevenage Boro Reds. Both sides started very cautiously & chances were very limited by both sides. Kyle Iacoponi was causing the Boro defence problems with his pace, but twice in the space of 5 mins when put through he was crudely thwarted by the Boro defence. The second half’s pattern of play continued as in the 1st half, both sides canceling each other out on too many occasions. Half way through the half Arlesey lost Dan Jones with a bad injury to the knee & Gary Baker to a thigh strain. This upset Arlesey’s rhythm & unfortunately allowed Boro to score twice. Not the ideal start but a long way to go. Ryan Dobson & Kyle Iacoponi were the pick of the players today. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodkiss, C. Anderson, D. Jones, S. King, G. Howard, K. Iacoponi, M. Ricketts, S. Flint, L. Knight, L. Murray. Report by T Flint |
