Baldock Town Saints 2-2 Arlesey This being Arlesey’s last game of the season & with the two sides having played each other 3 days before, and Arlesey running out comfortable winners, this was supposedly going to be a sure 3pts. But Baldock had other ideas, putting the boys on a small pitch suitable for U12’s, this paid dividends for Baldock. The game never got going, being too compact in the centre, Baldock chased & harassed all over the pitch & never allowed Arlesey to get in their stride but in the space of 5 to 10 minutes Arlesey could & should have scored 4 or 5 goals, poor finishing & some outstanding goalkeeping kept them at bay. The second half followed the same pattern but finally with 15 minutes to go Jamie Osborne finally broke the deadlock. Two minutes later a seemingly easy clearance was not dealt with & ending in the back of the net. Five minutes later it looked like Arlesey had rapped up the points when Chico outstripped the defence & gave the goalie no chance. But with time running out another mix up in defence allowed Baldock to level. A disappointing way to finish the season but never mind, this has been a truly great season & everyone in this squad can be proud of the contribution they have given. Jack Beresford & Sam Flint took M.O.M. Awards; both lads had very good games. Arlesey U15’s: J. Beresford, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, C. Anderson, S. Flint, D. Jones, G. Howard, L. Knight, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne, R. Hodgkiss, A. Atkins, G. Dhesi

Arlesey 6-2 Baldock Town Saints Evening k.o With two remaining games left Arlesey were still in the hunt for third place & they done themselves no harm with this comfortable victory over neighbours Baldock. After several chances went begging Osborne opened the scoring with a simple header. Arlesey were out muscling Baldock in every department & with Chico Iacoponi & Jamie scoring again the boys went in at half time 3-1 up, with Baldock pulling a goal back just before the break. Again Arlesey started the stronger, but against the run of play Baldock pulled a goal back for 3-2. Baldock were enjoying their best spell of the game & were making Arlesey work very hard but three goals in 10 minutes finished Baldock off, Jamie Osborne grabbing all of them to finish the game with 5! Charlie & Jamie both had very good games picking up M.O.M. Award. Arlesey U15’s: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, C. Anderson, S. Flint, D. Jones, G. Howard, L. Knight, A. Atkins, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne, R. Hodgkiss |

Arlesey 1-0 Potton Colts This local derby produced a very evenly contested match, but a special strike by Chico Iacoponi ensured Arlesey took maximum points. Potton came out of the blocks looking the sharper side & started to put the Arlesey defence under pressure, but some resolute defending by the back four kept Potton at bay. Neither side created too much but it was Arlesey who struck the only goal of the game after 20 mins, when good work by Hodgy sent Liam away, his cross was headed across the goal to the feet of Chico & he unleashed a thunderbolt into the corner of the net. The rest of the half was dominated by defences & both midfields nullifying each other out. Arlesey looked the better team in the second half & were twice thwarted by the outstanding saves from Potton’s No.1 but chances again were hard to come by for both teams and on reflection you can see why as both teams played a very similar style. In the end it was another great result for the boys in what has turned out to be a fantastic season so far, a hard working performance from the lads but two boys stuck out today, Gary Baker & Ryan Dobson, both having outstanding games at the back. On a lighter note, would you believe that Al! Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, R. Hodgkiss, C. Anderson, A. Dommett, S. Flint, D. Jones, L. Knight, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne, A. Atkins, G. Howard, J. Beresford. |

Knebworth Youth 2-2 Arlesey Arlesey's depleted squad made the short trip to Knebworth after all the injury problems over the last month the team had to overcome the loss of strikers Chico Iacoponi & Jamie Osborne for this game. But they responded superbly & can count themselves very unlucky not to come away with maximum points. The Blues had to defend against the strong wind first & with new signing Charlie Anderson slotting in at the back they coped very well, but twice they conceded, to go 2-0 down but several times they split the Knebworth defence but to no avail. Dan's fierce drive came off the underside of the bar & Liam twice went close, but the boys deservedly pulled a goal back when the hard working Liam Knigh finished off a fine move. The second half & with the wind advantage the boys pushed Knebworth on the back foot, two or three good moves come to no avail, but Hodgy should have put the boys level after a great run, he shot straight at the keeper. The game was opening up & Knebworth started to have a purple patch, Jack Beresford had to be on his toes a couple of times as well as some stout defending but with 10 mins to go Arlesey deservedly equalised, Ryan Dobson's fine ball down the line to Greg, who controlled, laid it back to Sam Flint who's pin point cross was headed in by Dan Jones. A great team effort today with everyone playing their part, but new signing Charlie Anderson had a fine debut to take Man of the Match. |

Royston Town 4-5 Arlesey For the third week running Arlesey's squad was reduced to the bare minimum, Gurpy & Gary Baker joining the long list of crocks. Jack Beresford was signed during the week & he deputised for Gurps & with the visit to a revitalised Royston this was knowingly going to be a hard tough fixture & so it turned out to be. Arlesey started very well and against a strong wind were playing some attractive football. Jamie's fine through ball put Liam Knight through & his thunderous 25 yard hit the roof of the net like a bullet, but the pattern of the game was soon set to establish itself with Royston soon equalising & 5 mins later Royston were in front 2-1. Kyle Iacoponi's fine run ended with a superb Liam cross & Jamie looping a header over the keeper for 2-2. Five mins later a mistake at the back allowed Osborne through & he made no mistake to put the boys 3-2 up but back came Royston & they took the teams in level at 3-3 for half time. This was a very entertaining match & both teams should be congratulated in what was very tricky conditions. Under tricky circumstances & a depleted squad you made me & the club very proud of you today, last mention to a fine Royston side, if they had started with this squad at the start of the season they would be in the top three. |

Arlesey 1-4 Northolt Northolt 2-1 Arlesey Arlesey 1-4 Northolt This was the first game of a double header against Northolt. After Northolt had taken an early lead Arlesey fought their way back into the game & deservedly equalised through Jamie Osborne. Arlesey’s home ref Paul Ibbotson then had to leave the pitch with an injury & the Northolt manager took over. The game hinged on a controversial penalty, the No.8 going down 2 yards outside the box but the ref gave the penalty. 2-1 down & unfortunately the boys fell to bits, leaving Northolt to run out comfortable winners in the end. Man of the Match went to Greg Howard, who played very well & deservedly took the accolade. Northolt 2-1 Arlesey After a 15 minute break it was back to the second game, again Northolt took an early lead, a half that was littered with many mistakes by both sides. Eventually the game settled down with neither side taking control, half time over & again Arlesey started the stronger, a lovely flowing move saw Osborne again equalise but again they paid dearly for inconsistent defending allowing a Northolt forward to score at ease. With injuries & lads leaving the club Arlesey are going to find the last few games very tough indeed, mentally they have got to toughen up. Man of the Match went to Adam Dommett who again gave a Captains display. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, R. Hodgkiss, G. Howard, A. Atkins, B. Strong, S. Flint, J. Osborne, K. Iacoponi, L. Knight, D. Jones, S. Fisher |

Letchworth Reds 3-1 Arlesey Arlesey produced a fine spirited display against league favourites Letchworth & in no way were disgraced against a very accomplished side. After a frantic first five minutes a mistake by the centre half allowed Kyle Iacoponi to pounce & he coolly beat the goalie. Unfortunately for Arlesey 5 minutes later a fine move ended with Greg Howard’s shot hitting the post & somehow being scrambled away, who knows at 2-0 what would have happened. Letchworth started to get on top, but the teams work rate and some sound defence kept Letchworth at bay, until the 35th minute when the Reds winger nipped into beat Gurps. The second half saw Letchworth generally on top, but the lads battled for everything all over the pitch, although Letchworth did score two more goals lady luck was not with the team, two clearances, both dropping to the eventual scorer. All credit to Letchworth, a very good side & they deserved the victory but the way they were made to work for the win was very pleasing for the Arlesey coaches. Today the defence were a credit & there were some fine displays elsewhere, but Kyle Iacoponi’s aggression & never say die attitude & yet another very solid game from Aaron Atkins deservedly earned them dual Man of the Match, well done boys. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, A. Dommett, R. Dobson, G. Howard, S. Flint, S. Fisher, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne, A. Atkins, D. Jones, L. Knight. |

Wymondley 6-0 Arlesey Talk about a funny old game, 1-0 down, could have been 3-1 up, finish up loosing 6-0! Unfortunately all the hard work against the league leaders was wasted by some inept defending, 4 times someone in defence played the dangerous Wymondley forward onside & the team were made to regret it. The ironic thing was, most of the lads had good games, especially in the first half, they played the better football, but until we learn to play as a unit at the back on a regular basis we will get punished by the better sides. Kyle Iacoponi gave his usual 110% on the pitch, but Man of the Match went to Aaron Atkins, who worked tirelessly for the team. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, G. Howard, S. Flint, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne, L. Knight, A. Atkins, S. Fisher |

Arlesey 2-0 Royston Town Arlesey always knew this was going to be a tough test, with basement team Royston arriving on the back of two very good displays against top & third placed teams in the last two weeks. With three lads ill & Dan Jones still injured Arlesey just managed to scrape 11 players for the start of the game. Since being promoted to Div.1 it is clearly evident there are no easy games in this division & although at the wrong end of the table, Royston turned up today with a big squad of enthusiastic lads. It was a game for a few of the lads to show what they were made of today, Greg Howard was switched to left back, Aaron & Sean slotting in either side of Hodgy, this had to be a well disciplined performance, 80 mins is a long time with only 11 players & on reflection this was probably the most satisfying team performance of the season. Arlesey opened the scoring with a peach of a goal, Osborne picked up the ball on the half way line, beat his marker to send Kyle Iacoponi through on goal & he made no mistake. Up to half time Arlesey had the lions share of possession but both defences were on the top of their game. The second half mirrored the first half’s action, Jamie sent Kyle through again, Kyle superbly chipping the goalie for 2-0, it seemed Arlesey would go on to win comfortably but Royston had other ideas. They made Arlesey battle all the way & although Arlesey had various chances to finish the game it took a Gurps special & a great last ditch Sean Fisher tackle to keep the boys in front. The lads deservedly should be congratulated today on a difficult day, they produced the goods, Greg Howard was immense today, as was Sam Flint who both shared the Man of the Match award. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, A. Dommett, G. Howard, S. Flint, S. Fisher, R. Hodgkiss, L. Knight, A. Atkins, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne. |

Arlesey 4-2 Knebworth On a wet cold afternoon & played on a bog of a pitch, both sides should be congratulated for their endeavour to play decent football. With defenders struggling to cope in the conditions, chances went begging early on at both ends of the pitch but it was Arlesey who opened the scoring, Jamie Osborne’s well placed free kick giving the goalie no chance & it wasn’t too long before he got his second. Great work by Liam Knight saw Jamie smash an unstoppable drive off the underside of the bar for 2-0. Against a strong wind, Arlesey’s defence should be proud of the way they defended but they were finally breached just before half time. A cross that should have been cleared but ending in the back of the net. The second half action carried on in the same fashion as the first, Arlesey seemed to have wrapped the game up when good work by Knight again, allowing Osborne to finish superbly on the edge of the box for his hat trick. Again both teams had their chances & Gurps pulled off two fantastic saves to keep Arlesey in front, Jamie rounded the keeper for No.4 but Knebworth never gave up & deservedly got their second with 10 mins to go. In a frantic last 5 to 10 minutes both sides really went for it, but Arlesey held on for a very good 3 points. Considering the conditions, this was a really exciting game, with excellent football played by both sides. Gurps, Gary & Adam shared the Man of the Match award, all having excellent games. A big thank you to Knebworth for complying with Arlesey’s wishes for a minutes silence before the game in remembrance to Terry James who sadly passed away last weekend. Terry had been a great supporter of Arlesey Town Youth games since the beginning, supporting not only his two grandsons in the U15’s and U13’s Blues but any of the youth teams. Terry was a sponsor of the club & a regular at all ATYFC functions, he will be greatly missed by many people at ArleseyTown youth for sure. A big thanks to Mark & Adam for everything they done this week. Trev. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, G. Howard, S. Flint, R. Hodgkiss, C. Gadsby, L. Knight, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne, A. Atkins, S. Fisher, A. Winwood. |

Harlow 4-1 Arlesey Town A very poor performance from Arlesey saw them return from a cold afternoon kick-off at Harlow with no points, & to be honest there can be no complaints. The first half action under way saw both sides battling, but neither side seemed to get anywhere & general play was very poor all over the pitch. The last twenty minutes of the half saw Arlesey take the initiative & really 2 or 3 good chances went begging, but in the closing minutes Harlow took the lead when a Ryan Dobson challenge was deemed to be a penalty, well the referee thought so! The second half started disastrously, twice in the space of the opening five minutes the defence were caught square & were punished both times. Midway through the half Harlow added No.4, Arlesey’s best spell came in the last 15, Carl Gadsby hammered home from close range, Osborne hit the post from 35rds out & yet again chances went begging & with a bit of luck, who knows, but no complaint for most of the game, the lads were second best. More disappointingly, not for the first time this season, the lads play, away from home is in stark contrast to that of their home form. Aaron Atkins & Carl Gadsby both came on just after half time & they can certainly be proud of their efforts, food for thought for the coaches. Anyway a bad day at the office & back to the drawing board, Man of the Match was not awarded. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, R. Hodgkiss, G. Howard, S. Flint, D. Jones, L. Knight, K. Iacoponi, J. Osborne, A. Atkins, C. Gadsby |

Arlesey 3-0 Baldock Town Templars Arlesey continued their good run in form with a solid team performance against local rivals Baldock. With Al Iacoponi recovering after a minor op, matters could not have started any worse when Gurpy pulled out before kick-off feeling unwell. Sam the Cat Flint deputised for 20 mins, & done very well too, before Gurps felt well enough to return to action. The first 20 mins was pretty dour, both sides struggling to cope with the tricky conditions. With Baldock not offering much up front, it was Arlesey who started to take the initiative, Jamie Osborne twice broke through but to no avail. The deadlock was broken by Ryan Hodgkiss, who cleverly side stepped two defenders in the box & neatly beat the keeper. The second came 5 mins later; a cleverly timed run again, saw Ronaldinho Hodgkiss split the defence, round the keeper & fire home. The second half saw Arlesey dominate long periods of play & when Jamie Osborne scored No.3 after 10 mins you felt Arlesey would go on to score a few more, but Baldock had other ideas. The boys played some lovely flowing football in the second half & they certainly deserved to score more, some fine displays today, but more importantly this was another very good team effort, so the team took the Man of Match Award. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, G. Howard, S. Flint, R. Hodgkiss, D. Jones, C. Gadsby, L. Knight, J. Osborne, A. Atkins, S. Fisher |

Arlesey 6-2 Austin Arrowheads A fantastic result for the boys saw them take maximum points against high flying Austen Arrowheads. With Hodgy moving to centre of midfield & Dan Jones slotting into his right the side seemed to be more solid & straight from the kick off Arlesey attacked Arrowheads. Arlesey started to take control of the game but had to be on their toes with the Austen counter attack. Jamie opened the scoring, a turn on the edge of the box saw his tame shot somehow slip under the goalies clutch. The second was an Osborne special, a left volley from fully 30 yrds, flying into the roof of the net. Arlesey were in total control now & Jamie sent the boys in 3-0 up at half time with a neat finish & yet another hat trick. Austen raised their game & took control of the opening 10 mins, but the defence & Gurpy were in no mood today to give anything away & coped admirably with most attacks. A flowing move down the left side saw a pin point cross to Jamie to volley No.4, a fine interception & cross by Liam Knight saw the tireless Chico Iacoponi head in No.5 which allowed the team to make a few changes. With all four substitutions made, the lads still played well but the balance was lost, thus allowing Austen to score 2 soft goals, really lessons probably learned by the Manager today, but Osborne had the last word, smashing in a shot from a tight angle for No.6 & five for him. A great team performance, Gurpy & the back three looked very solid, Jones & Hodgy were very commanding in midfield, Mr Osborne’s five outstanding goals need a mention. Kyle Iacoponi’s outstanding work rate and Sam Flint’s fine work rate and precise crosses made them share the Man of the Match award this week, but other boys were not far behind, well done lads. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, R. Hodgkiss, G. Howard, S. Flint, D. Jones, K. Iacoponi, L. Knight, J. Osborne, S. Fisher, A. Atkins, B. Strong, C. Gadsby. |

Stevenage BJ Reds 4-5 Arlesey With the four week Xmas break & festivals over with it was back to league action with the supposedly short trip to Stevenage Reds. After the pre-match warm welcome over, it was down to business. Arlesey started the stronger & deservedly took a two goal lead, Kyle Iacoponi & Jamie Osborne netting, but Arlesey threw the lead away, allowing Boro to score twice with some woeful defending. Just before the break Osborne put Arlesey back in front with a well taken goal. Again Boro pulled level, but Arlesey seemed to wrap the game up, twice Osborne out muscled the defence to see him finish the game with 4 goals. 5-3 up with 10 mins to go & seemingly cruising, they again allowed Boro back into the game to set up a frantic last 5 to 10 mins. The boys held out to deservedly take the three points, not a classic, plenty of excitement, but both teams showed the four week break had taken effect. Gurps & Jamie shared the Man of the Match award, Gurps pulling off one of his trademark saves early in the first half, 3 points, but more importantly, that’s Boro played twice! Arlesey: G. Dhesi, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, D. Jones, G. Howard, S. Flint, J. Osborne, K. Iacoponi, L. Knight, C. Gadsby, B. Strong, A. Atkins, S. Fisher |

Bedford Town 7-4 Arlesey BedsCounty Cup Unfortunately the away trip to Bedford was always going to be a hard task but Arlesey can be proud of their efforts, especially with the team having injury problems. Bedford scored twice in the opening 10 mins, not the ideal start but Osborne’s fine finish put Arlesey back into the game. Yet again a static defence allowed Bedford to score, Carl Gadsby’s strong burst through the defence saw him score for 2-3, then the goal of the game, a sweeping ball to Osborne on the wing saw him control the ball & volley fully 30 yrds out into the roof of the net, 3-3 & the boys were looking strong, but yet again they gave a goal away just before half time. The reasons for some poor defending came to light at half time break, Ryan Hodgkiss & Gary Baker both carrying injuries, Ryan having to come off, Kyle Iacoponi also injured, had to come off, the squad shuffled round, went back on but were caught twice for speed at the back. Gary Baker & Greg Howard had to come off with injuries but the lads never gave up & Jamie’s fierce strike pulled it back to 6-4. Arlesey were enjoying a good spell & it wasn’t till late on that Bedford scored No.7. A good game was spoiled by injuries but everyone played their part in a very entertaining game. Jamie’s hat trick was a highlight, but Adam Dommett picked up Man of the Match, his contribution was immense. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, R. Hodgkiss, G. Howard, D. Jones, C. Gadsby, K. Iacoponi, L. Knight, J. Osborne, S. Flint, A. Atkins, A. Winwood. |

Eternit 1-9 Arlesey Arlesey got back to winning ways with a fine team performance. Early chances went begging before Jamie Osborne opened the scoring, Liam Knights fine run & finish made it two and Jamie put Arlesey 3-0 up just before half time. Eternit pulled a goal back within the first couple of minutes, a static defence paying the price. Jamie soon restored the 3 goal advantage & he didn’t have to wait long to notch his second hat trick of the season. Liam Knight scored No.5, straight from the corner spot; Kyle Iacoponi’s fine burst from midfield put him on the score sheet. Osborne added No.7, Liam went back on the pitch and deservedly scored No.8 and his first hat trick for the Club, then Greg Howard wrapped things up with No.9. This was a sound team performance; the lads started knocking the ball about in the second half & at times the football was a joy to watch. All credit to Eternit, who never gave up & were as physical a side that Arlesey have faced this season. Liam Knight had a very good game, as did a few of the lads but Jamie Osborne’s 4 goal burst & overall play earned him Man of the Match. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, S. Flint, D. Jones, C. Gadsby, K. Iacoponi, L., Knight, J. Osborne, A. Winwood, A. Atkins, G. Howard |

Arlesey 2-5 Wymondley An excellent game played under lights at ArleseyTown saw league leaders Wymondley eventually run out comfortable winners 5 – 2. The first 10 to 15 mins saw both sides attack at every opportunity, Wymondley looked the more dangerous, but their opening goal was disappointing, a long range effort, eluding Gurps, No.2 followed shortly after, poor marking, and a superb cross, back of the net. Arlesey responded well & a superb double save by the goalie prevented Arlesey getting back into the game. Arlesey were beginning to get on top, but again they fell for the sucker punch, so Wymondley take a 3-0 lead at half time. Arlesey started the second half strongly, 2 or 3 close efforts just narrowly going wide, then Osborne went through, only to be pulled back, and the defender was unfortunately sent off. Osborne’s superb strike from the free kick pulling a goal back, it was all Arlesey but some resilient defending kept the boys at bay. Then another poor mistake gave Wymondley the killer goal for 4-1. Kyle Iacoponi pulled another goal back for 4-2 and again Arlesey put Wymondley under severe pressure but all regards to Wymondley, who broke away and put the game out of reach of Arlesey; 5-2 to Wymondley probably was a fair reflection, but Arlesey certainly played their part, Ryan Hodgkiss took Man of the Match, he and Adam Dommett were again inspirational. The gaps closing but more hard work to do on the training pitch. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, R. Hodgkiss, A. Dommett, G. Howard, D. Jones, C. Gadsby, K. Iacoponi, L. Knight, J. Osborne, S. Flint, S. Fisher, B. Strong, A. Winwood, A. Atkins |

Leighton Corinthians 3-8 Arlesey County Cup Round 2 A classy first half performance saw Arlesey easily progress into the next round of the CountyCup. The first half hour Arlesey ripped Leighton’s defence apart. Iacoponi, Osborne & Knight in particular, were instrumental in many of the attacks. Jamie (Uncle) Osborne opened the scoring, Kyle Iacoponi hammered in No.2, Leighton pulled a goal back but Jamie soon added No.3. Liam Knight’s long range cross curling under the bar for No.4, Greg Howard can consider himself unlucky after a fine 30 yrd run he saw his 25 yrd strike crash the bar and was cleared for a corner. Then Iacoponi’s fine interception and finish for No.5 & Jamie rapped the game up with 2 more goals to send Arlesey in 7-1 up at half time. With conditions deteriorating badly on the pitch & with a subdued second half performance the game fizzled out into a long kick ball game. Arlesey sent on Atkins, Flint & Strong to spice things up, this they did & Jamie Osborne added No.8 & his 5th of the game. Disappointedly Leighton pulled two late goals back, but nothing can really deter from the fact this was a very good team performance. Some excellent performances today, but Carl Gadsby took Man of the Match, playing in central midfield & having to contend with a bog field, he gave a very solid display. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, R. Hodgkiss, G. Howard, D. Jones, C. Gadsby, K. Iacoponi, L. Knight, J. Osborne, S. Flint, A. Atkins, B. Strong. |

ArleseyTown 0-1 Letchworth Reds Arlesey just lost out in this local derby, but were very unfortunate not to take any points in what was a thrilling under 15 game. The first 15 mins saw Letchworth try to knock the ball around, but time after time Arlesey pressurised all over the pitch, forcing Letchworth into mistakes. Jamie Osborne narrowly shot over after 10 mins but 5 mins later he should have put the Blues ahead, but shot at the goalies feet. Liam Knight was causing problems down the flank & from one sweet move involving the tirelessly working Iacoponi he was bought down just outside the box and Osborne’s 25 yrd rasper was somehow tipped over by the goalie. Letchworth had their moments but Gurps & the defence were faultless in the 1st half. Arlesey fell asleep in the first 5 to 10 mins of the second half & unfortunately it cost them dearly, Baker’s missed timed clearance was punished by Letchworth, but with the wind behind them the boys tried to push Letchworth back, 3 glorious chances went begging, one in particular, a header on the line somehow scooping over the bar. With Arlesey desperately pushing forward for the equaliser, Letchworth broke away twice but Gurps & Dommett both produced timely tackles to deal with the situation. In the final moments, Osborne again had a glorious chance to equalise but his lob over the keeper just agonisingly going over. A superb effort by the lads hopefully will see them take heart from this result. All the squad played their part, Gurps & Hodgy & Dommett were superb at the back, the midfield worked their socks off & with more fortune Osborne could have, on another day come away with a double hat trick. Player of the week went to Kyle Iacoponi, who not only was a threat to the Letchworth defence, but certainly contributed largely in defensive duties as well. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, A. Dommett, R. Dobson, G. Howard, D. Jones, C. Gadsby, K. Iacoponi, L. Knight, J. Osborne, S. Flint, J. Coles, A. Atkins, S. Fisher |

Bishops Stortford 3-1 Arlesey Arlesey went out of the League Cup at the first hurdle to Div.2 side Stortford. They can have no complaints; they were second best in every department. Arlesey’s midfield struggled to cope with Stortford’s impressive No.8 and he was instrumental in many of their attacks but Arlesey did take the lead, a fine cross was met by Iacoponi, who’s quick thinking found Jones who coolly put the ball in the net to take Arlesey in at half time 1-0 up. The second half was very poor, with neither side creating much & with 5 minutes to go all looked well for the Blues to go through, but from a Stortford corner, Gurps’s poor decision making allowed Stortford to equalise. Extra time saw Arlesey concede 2 goals in as many minutes and put Stortford through & they thoroughly deserved to. Kyle Iacoponi worked tirelessly up front as did Liam Knight, but Sean Fisher who came on as sub after 25 minutes played very well & deservedly took Man of the Match. The rest of the lads should be very disappointed with their efforts & they certainly need to improve greatly next week with the visit of Letchworth Reds. Arlesey U15’s: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, A. Dommett, R. Dobson, G. Howard, B. Strong, C. Gadsby, L. Knight, K. Iacoponi, D. Jones, A. Atkins, S. Fisher |

Arlesey 1-2 HarlowTown Reds Both teams should be congratulated for playing their part in a thoroughly enjoyable entertaining game. The first half action saw both teams attack each other at every opportunity, but both sets of defenders were in no mood to give anything away & when opportunities did arrive, Gurps & the Harlow goalie were coping admirably. With 5 mins to go Harlow opened the scoring, the Harlow No.8’s fine strike giving Gurpy no chance. The second half saw Arlesey press Harlow on the back foot, again chances were few, but Arlesey had two glorious chances to score but to no avail. At the other end Gurpy twice superbly denied the impressive forward from Harlow. With ten mins to go, Harlow were awarded a penalty, I think the least said about it the better, 2-0 down, 10 mins to go the boys tried so hard to get back into the game. Greg Howard’s fine strike pulled one back, and from a Liam Knight corner, somehow the ball was scrambled away. A 2-1 defeat, but the boys can be proud of this display; with so many injuries & absentees the squad showed real grit & fight today. Ben Strong came in at right back & had a fine game, as did all the defenders, the midfield & forwards all gave good accounts of themselves & Gurpy was at his best between the sticks, the whole team were awarded Man of the Match. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, B. Strong, R. Dobson, R. Hodgkiss, A. Dommett, S. Flint, G. Howard, A. Winwood, A. Atkins, K. Iacoponi, D. Jones, L. Knight, S. Fisher |

Baldock Town Templars 2 -8 ArleseyTown In a remarkable game, Arlesey came back from 2-0 down to take a welcome 3 points at neighbours BaldockTown. Arlesey started second best, allowing Baldock to dictate play & “to be honest” it was no surprise Baldock opened the scoring. 15 minutes gone & Baldock went 2-0 up, poor defending all over the pitch allowing Baldock to score and the boys facing an uphill battle. With 20 minutes gone Arlesey were starting to get back into the game, the midfield of Arlesey starting to wake up and bossing affairs. Kyle Iacoponi pulled a goal back just before half-time, nothing more than he deserved, having 2 more efforts superbly saved by the Baldock goalie. 2-1 down at half-time, and it was time to recoup & put things right! This the boys did, in the second half the team were excellent, Hodgy marshalled the back four, Adam Dommett was pushed forward a tad & he inspired the rest of the midfield boys. Dan Jones & Kyle Iacoponi tore the Baldock defence to bits; every time Arlesey attacked they looked like scoring. Kyle got the equaliser, a Gadsby left foot drive put the boys 3-2 up, Kyle completed his hat trick for 4-2 then Dan Jones’s superb strike made it 5-2. Kyle Iacoponi then scored No.6 before Alex Winwood headed home number seven, after fine work by Ben Strong, Kyle finished off the scoring, again a superb run and finish. Kyle Iacoponi’s five goals deservedly earned him the Man of the Match award; he was simply outstanding, Dan Jones wasn’t far behind but for the 1st twenty minutes every one else can be very proud of their efforts today. It would be very easy after a performance like this to get carried away, but hopefully the doubters and people who said this team would go straight down will take note. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, R. Dobson, A. Dommett, G. Baker, A. Winwood, D. Jones, C. Gadsby, G. Howard, S. Flint, R. Hodgkiss, K, Iacoponi, B. Strong, A. Atkins |

Austin Arrowheads 6-3 Arlesey A poor display from the boys saw them return home from Stevenage with no points & deservedly so. The first 10 minutes could have seen Arlesey take a 3 goal lead, good work by new signing Kyle Iacoponi on a couple of occasions, sending Greg Howard through on goal, but to no avail. Austin opened the scoring, splitting the Blues defence to see the Austin winger score, & it was not long before it was two. Dan Jones’s second attempt from distance put Arlesey back into the game with a thunderbolt from 25 yds out, but a Gurpy mistake put Austin 3-1 up at half-time. After a scrappy 10-15 mins Arlesey started to get back into the game, a fine pass by Dommett put Dan Jones through & he made no mistake & 5 minutes later the boys were level, Kyle Iacoponi’s quick thinking & fine finish to level at 3-3. With Arlesey now on top it was disappointing to give away another sloppy goal, & then give away a very dubious penalty. Austin’s 6th finally finished off Arlesey, but Dan Jones still had time to hit another screamer against the post. This was the most disappointing display that Arlesey have produced over the last couple of seasons. Some very poor displays all over the pitch, but some boys really do have to look at their own individual efforts today. Kyle Iacoponi had a fine debut; Dan Jones was Arlesey’s best player and deservedly took Man of the Match. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, A. Dommett, R. Dobson, S. Flint, G. Howard, A. Winwood, A. Atkins, B. Strong, K. Iacoponi, D. Jones, S. Fisher |

Potton 1-1 Arlesey After only two games into the season it is plain to see how much Arlesey have to raise their standards to compete against boys in this league. Potton started strongly & out muscled the Arlesey midfield. 10 minutes gone & Potton took a deserved lead & but for some stout defending by the impressive back four, Arlesey could have seen this game well out of their reach by half time. Already without the services of Mr reliable Ryan Dobson, the cause was not helped by Jamie Osborne limping off after 25 minutes. Ben Strong was pushed forward with Sean Fisher dropping into midfield, but still the boys were struggling to make any inroads against a well marshalled Potton defence. But in the dying seconds of the first half a superb cross by Sam Flint was met by Ben Strong, who coolly side footed home. The second half saw Arlesey compete for the ball with far more aggression but with both teams now doing the same, the game became very scrappy. The last 10 minutes saw Arlesey have their best period, pushing Potton on the back foot, Ben Strong’s wicked deflected shot well saved by the keeper. With the final whistle blown, Arlesey were more than happy with the point, but to their credit the boys gave a far better account of themselves in the second half. Greg Howard often playing the lone role up front had a fine game for the Blues, but the back four were outstanding. Ryan Hodgkiss & Dan Jones were simply awesome, sharing the Man of the Match this week. Probably a point snatched today, but many more hard battles face the boys this season. Arlesey: G. Dhesi, G. Baker, R. Hodgkiss, A. Dommett, D. Jones, S. Flint, A. Winwood, B. Strong, A. Atkins, J. Osborne, G. Howard, S. Fisher |

Arlesey 2-1 Stevenage Boro Reds Arlesey’s start to the new season could not have been any harder than with the visit of Boro, a top three side over the last few seasons. Early season headaches have seen Boro struggle for players, but they still turned up for this game with a class squad. Arlesey started very brightly & but for some very physical & robust defending Boro could have found themselves 2-0 down very early on. Arlesey’s back four coped very well with Boro’s attack, Gary Baker especially taking the eye. Half time, with scores level, Arlesey could be very happy with their Div 1 debut. The pattern of the second half was very similar to the first with Arlesey pressing, but Boro very resolute all over the pitch. The deadlock was broken with 15 minutes to go, a long Dan Jones corner was met by the unmarked Osborne at the far post who coolly side footed home, no more than the boys deserved. With just 5 minutes to go & a very rare Boro attack & cross saw them snatch an equaliser. With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Dan Jones was pulled down 25 yards out, up stepped Jamie to curl the free kick over the Boro goalie into the roof of the net to win the game. A great start for the boys, everybody played their part today but Gary Baker was at his tenacious best when needed & deservedly picked up Player of the Match. G. Dhesi, A. Dommett, R. Dobson, R.
