Under 14 Blue Season 06/07
Season 2006/07 Reports

Royston Town 2-2 Arlesey Town 25/2/07 After a good heart to heart on Friday, the lads may and I stress may have at last realised that if they want Division 1 football next year, they will have to roll up their sleeves and fight for every goal and every point. This started today, away to Royston; it was a cracking game from both sets of players and a great game for the spectators, a fantastic start from both teams meant lots of goal mouth action at both ends. Royston had a few chances and Gask showed a good and safe pair of hands on a number of occasions, but as the game really got going Arlesey got into their stride and started to cause Royston some problems, Marshall found space cleverly and found B Talbot, a great run and shot was parried, then Robb just missed after some heavy pressure from a defender, Brooks and Turnbull were in control of the midfield and this allowed raid after raid by Arlesey, a lot of possession and clear cut chances but sadly nothing to show for all the hard work, 0-0 at h/t. Howard, Smith and Bailey were all introduced at h/t but just as the 2nd half was under way a gift of a goal for Royston, the lads heads didn’t drop and they kept plugging away, and one stunning move, which involved Fish, Marshall and Brooks (who also had a great game) resulted in Robb being put clear and he coolly lobbed the keeper to put Arlesey on level terms. This gave the lads a great deal of belief and the Royston keeper was the busier of the two, but then unbelievably the ref gave the home team a very soft penalty which put Royston 2-1 up despite a valiant effort from Gask. This was a big disappointment to the lads but this just spurred them on, for the next 15 minutes it was all Arlesey, with Howard’s powerful runs exposing holes in Royston’s defence it was only a matter of time before the lads equalised. From one of these runs and a great cross, midfield maestro Marshall headed into the corner, with minutes left Arlesey fashioned a number of great chances, Robb, Howard, Marshall and B Talbot all narrowly missing the target, but after all said and done Royston fully deserved a point for their part in what was a brilliant game. M.O.M. today was defender Veness, pure class, his never say die attitude rubbed off on all the lads, but every player played their part in what was easily the best match Arlesey have played this season, well done lads. Arlesey: C. Gask, J. Rejek, J. Fish, J. Talbot, M. Veness, C. Marshall, R. Turnbull, T. Brooks, J. Towndrow, B. Robb, B. Talbot, R. Howard, J. Smith, J. Bailey. |

Arlesey 0-3 Baldock 18/2/07 Once again after the game, the opposition managers and coaches commented on how well the lads played and that we are a good little side, but that is of little consolation when once again all our efforts and good play was rewarded with no goals and no points and the stark reality is that if we do not win the majority of our remaining games we will be relegated back to division 2. As early as the 3rd minute, a good strike from Veness was fumbled by the keeper and Robb placed the ball wide. A shot from Howard was hurried and a lot of indecision in the Blues defence numerous times kept Gask busy and after some confident handling and the score at 0-0 Baldock scored slightly against the run of play, but to concede a soft goal 10 minutes later saw all the lads dejected. Some more home truths at half time saw the 2nd half start brightly for Arlesey but for all their neat play, tidy football and good approach play, the pressure was not turned into goals and Baldock scored again 10 minutes before time to kill the game off, Howard having 2 glorious chances but the finesse was not there. Smith and Marshall played particularly well in midfield as did Turnbull and J Talbot (after a shaky start) in defence. This weeks M.O.M. was Smith with a tireless effort. Arlesey Blues: C. Gask, J. Fish, M. Veness, R. Turnbull, J. Talbot, C. Marshall, B. Talbot, J. Smith, T. Brooks, R. Howard, B. Robb, J. Towndrow, J. Rejek Report by Terry Smith |

Bromham 2-3 Arlesey Town Youth Blues Quarter Final County Cup – A.E.T. 4/2/07 Third time lucky for Arlesey after missing out the last two years. It was nice to reach the semi finals of the Beds County Cup and it was done in a good manner by the lads. The winter sun was bright and so were the lads, neat and tidy football put Bromham under pressure, and don’t treat the ball like a hot potato were the instructions and it worked well. For long spells the lads were in total control of the game and as in recent weeks a hat full of chances, some hurried finishing, erratic shooting and the goalkeeper living a charmed life, then one piece of luck when Brooks hit the post, it meant Arlesey were being frustrated but Bromham were always dangerous and scored from a free kick mid way in the first half to further frustrate the Blues. With heads held high and ready to give it their all in the second half, a Marshall run and block on the Arlesey left, the ball skidding across the box and Howard was on hand to tap home. The goal settled the lads and they played some great football, but Bromham were no pushover and had the lads on their toes on a lot of occasions. Veness, Talbot, Fish and Rejek had to be alert but the midfield kept plugging away, B. Talbot playing the ball over the defence for Howard to coolly lob the keeper, 2-1. 8 minutes left and the Blues were in the semi-finals, but with seconds left, concentration lost and Bromham were level. A sledgehammer for the lad’s confidence to say the least, into extra time we went and it took the lad’s time to recover, but gradually they showed some great character and determination and started to carve some chances for themselves but the Bromham goalie was living a charmed life and the lads could not find the finishing touch. That was until Howard unleashed his full power, picked up a thru ball, turned two defenders and smashed the ball into the top corner. No way back for Bromham now and the lads saw out the final few minutes for a well deserved win. This weeks M.O.M. was Howard, three brilliant finishes and a truly hard working performance, every one of the lads deserved some credit for their part in the game and it was also a credit to Arlesey that the Beds F.A. representative was full of praise for the lads commenting on their great attitude, sportsmanship and the way they never gave up and tried to play football, well done lads. Arlesey: A. Brown, R. Turnbull, J. Rejek, M. Veness, J. Talbot, T. Brooks, C. Marshall, J. Smith, B. Talbot, R. Howard, B. Robb, J. Towndrow, J. Bailey, J. Fish, C. Gask. Report by Terry Smith |

Arlesey Town Blues 2-4 Stevenage Town LEAGUE CUP 28/1/07 Two weeks with no game and straight into a league cup tie against run away division leaders Stevenage, what a tough one but still a winnable game & always a good game between the two sides. Stevenage, as you would expect started brightly and soon got into their stride, creating numerous chances but poor finishing kept the score to 2 at half time. Arlesey couldn’t string it together in the first half and as a result posed little threat to the Stevenage goal. After a good old fashioned chat at half time the lads came out with a renewed spirit and went at Stevenage from the start, one thing Stevenage don’t like is pressure and once the lads realized this they raised their game, J. Talbot, Smith, Robb, Marshall and Rejek were making life difficult and from a mazy run by Marshall the resulting free kick from Veness was into the heart of Stevenage’s defence and from the resulting scramble Robb was on hand to score, (why oh why does it take a rollicking and giving the opposition goals to start the lads to believe in themselves). But now it was a different game, then just as the lads were giving Stevenage something to think about, (as in recent weeks) disaster, 2 more errors in the space of 2 minutes and the game was over. Turnbull had other ideas and from a powerful run he found himself on the edge of the box, as the keeper came out he produced a memorable chip into the far corner, a great 2nd half but still only half the team producing the goods, if they want to stay in the top division next year it will take a determined effort from every body. This weeks Man of the Match was Smith, a performance full of grit, determination and never say die attitude. Arlesey: C. Gask, J. Rejek, J. Fish, M. Veness, J. Talbot, J. Towndrow, B. Talbot, J. Smith, C. Marshall, B. Robb, R. Howard, J. Bailey, R. Turnbull, T. Brooks Report by Terry Smith |

Wymondley 5-3 Arlesey Blue 7/1/2007 New Year, new start, but 3 points lost. Defending the slope and the wind in their faces the lads took a little while to settle and found themselves a goal down inside a few minutes. This did not deter them but they made little headway against Wymondley and so near to half time conceded again, a little unjust. The second half was a dream, the lads played some great stuff and were beginning to worry Wymondley but then the ref gave a very dubious penalty, which was dispatched into the bottom corner. All the lads kept pushing and probing, then from a Veness corner, Robb Volleyed into the top corner. This was a good time to score for the lads and they soon scored again, a fine ball from Marshall found Robb again and a quick turn of pace took him away from the defender and with the blink of an eye found the bottom corner. Game on was the cry from the touchline, Howard going close but then a total disaster, two costly errors and the game was lost. A shame after all their hard work but one last twist was Howard’s cracker into the top corner, a mere consolation for the Blues, 3 goals away from home and still not a point. Lots of effort, good football and movement but a very disappointing result and a very disappointed group of young lads. This weeks M.O.M. was Marshall, a very confident game and a constant thorn in Wymondley’s side. Arlesey: C. Gask, M. Veness, J. Rejek, J. Fish, J. Smith, J. Towndrow, C. Marshall, R. Turnbull, R. Howard, B. Robb, T. Brooks, J. Flint, R. Glasgow, J. Bailey |

County Cup – 17th December 2006 Arlesey Town Youth 7-0 Mid Beds Tigers What a way to start Christmas, a thumping 7-0 win and getting into the County Cup q/f for the third successive year, Tigers came with a good track record and for a lot of the game you could see why. But Arlesey were up for the game today and as in recent weeks the lads have played good in spells. This week it was great all through the 70 minutes, the passing, movement, talking, and all good but for the entire first half pressure the Blues could not put the ball into the net. Howard, Marshall, Talbot, Robb and Smith all going close and the away keeper playing well. Straight away as the 2nd half was under way Robb was put thru by Smith and he made no mistake, no sooner had we kicked off and the ball was in the net again, this time Howard produced a scorcher into the bottom corner. This settled the lads a lot and B Talbot scored 2 great goals in the space of 10 minutes, one with his head and one going round the keeper. With 20 minutes gone and Arlesey 4-0 up and playing some great one and two touch football, next Robb beat 3 defenders and the keeper to put the lads 5 up and not to be outdone, Marshall scored his first goal for Arlesey Blues with a well timed shot into the far corner and lastly Brooks in his first season for the Blues made a surging run to meet a Howard cross and fire into the top corner a great goal to end a great game. This weeks M.O.M. was J Talbot for all Arlesey’s great attacking play when ever the defence was under pressure he held firm, he really is turning into a good and solid defender, well done Joe and a big well done to all the lads for a fine performance. |
|
Arlesey Blues 1-2 Apollo 10/12/06 After last week’s morale boosting win against Saturn it was Apollo’s turn to be tested and tested they were. The game could and should have been put beyond Apollo in the first half but the lads paid the price for some indifferent finishing. Neat and tidy football & going at Apollo, putting them under pressure were the player’s first thoughts and from this approach it was Arlesey who created the best chances. Turnbull down the left found Howard and he crashed the ball into the top corner, good work from the Arlesey midfield kept Apollo to a few breaks but nothing to worry about. Robb’s good turn and shot hitting the post from the rebound, an alert forward should have got an easy tap in, good goalkeeping from Apollo kept the score to 1 at the break, Apollo now knew they were in a tough game. The 2nd half was a different kettle of fish, Apollo taking the game to Arlesey and posing the Blues all kinds of problems. From one attack the lively Apollo forward turned the full back and smashed the ball passed a startled home keeper, Arlesey had to dig keep to stop Apollo from turning the screw. They were batting individual battles all over the pitch, Marshall holding his own, as was Fish, Veness and Talbot, but one thing the lads had a tendency to do today was dive in and this was their undoing. A lunging tackle, a player tumbling over and from the resulting penalty Apollo found themselves 2-1 up. Gask in the Arlesey goal was alert all game and made some good saves and showed a safe pair of hands, 2-1 was the final score and a relieved Apollo gained 3 points. Overview today was all the lads put in a gutsy performance and in the words of the Chairman “the lads have improved tremendously well over the last few years and 2 years ago this would have been a 5, 6 or 7 nil for Apollo” but the lads need to keep listening and learning and improving even further. Today’s M.O.M. was Towndrow, he never gives up and his energy levels are superb and he is a tremendous asset, well done lads. Arlesey: C. Gask, M. Veness, J. Fish, R. Turnbull, J. Smith, J. Towndrow, J. Talbot, B. Talbot, R. Howard, B. Robb, C. Marshall, J. Flint, T. Brooks, R. Glasgow, J. Rejek. Report by Terry Smith |

Arlesey Blues 7-2 Saturn 3/12/06 Nine games in, and our first win in the league. With the wind at their backs in the first half it was a question of how many goals the lads could get ahead and then prepare for the 2nd half onslaught. First on the score sheet was Turnbull who was on hand at the far post to tap in. A good cross from Marshall found Turnbull, again in space to fire the blues 2nd. The lads kept going and after some near misses, great footwork from Howard and a left foot shot ended in the bottom corner. B Talbot was alert to control a poor goal kick and score from 18 yards and minutes from the end of the half J Talbot defended well and found Robb who ran onto the ball and shot high into the net. The 2nd half was always going to be difficult, but the lads tried to play football all the time but it was Saturn who were on fire and despite being 5 down they played good football and shocked Arlesey with a well taken goal. Robb was on hand to restore Arlesey’s goal advantage with another cool finish, but back came Saturn and scored a cracking goal to keep the game alive. Arlesey’s best goal was scored by Flint, finding space at the back post he unleashed a rocket into the top corner. Today’s result was no more than the lads deserved, order of the day was to keep the ball on the ground and play football, put pressure on Saturn and attack the ball at every opportunity and this the Blues did today, maybe this is going to be the stepping stone to Division One safety that Arlesey needed. A lot of good performances today, but the Man of the Match was Turnbull, 2 great goals and a workmanlike performance, well done lads. Arlesey: C. Gask, M. Veness, J. Talbot, C. Marshall, R. Howard, B. Robb, R. Turnbull, J. Smith, J. Towndrow, B. Talbot, J. Fish, J. Flint, J. Rejek, R. Glasgow, T. Brooks. Report by Terry Smith |

Arlesey Blues 1-3 Bennington 26/11/06 What can I say, a game the lads could and should have won again. With a slight wind advantage in the first half it was always going to be backs to the wall time, but as it turned out it was the usual story of individual mistakes that cost the lads dearly and with hardly anything in the way of action in the Bennington half Arlesey found themselves 2 goals down.
The second half started with the lads having a zest for the game and the battle ahead, 10 minutes in and Robb, thru on goal, hit a cracking shot but the keeper produced a brilliant save, from the rebound ex-Bennington player Turnbull tapped the ball in. Just the bit of luck the lads needed, but it was short lived, Bennington awarded a penalty and the 2 goal cushion was restored. This half the lads had a bit more belief and they dug in and kept battling away and their persistence paid off with a number of chances and good chances at that. They found the Bennington keeper in good form and he made good saves at crucial times and his handling was good all thru the game. Good performances from J. Talbot, Smith and Marshall were sadly not enough to get the lads that elusive first win. This weeks Man of the Match was Jack Fish who, despite playing a year up has put in good performances over the last few weeks, a never say die attitude (a pity a few more of the lads don’t have the same quality).
Arlesey: C. Gask, M. Veness, J. Talbot, J. Fish, T. Brooks, J. Smith, J. Towndrow, R. Turnbull, B. Talbot, B. Robb, R. Howard, C. Marshall, J. Flint, J. Bailey, J. Rejek, R. Glasgow. Report By Terry Smith |

Woodside 1-5 Arlesey Blues County Cup 19/11/06 Today’s game in the County Cup was, on paper a tough game, but no disrespect to Woodside but today the lads had the bit between their teeth & for virtually the whole 70 minutes the boys played some great football. They tried to use the wings and put Woodside under pressure; they attacked the ball and talked to each other. With 10 minutes gone Robb was clean thru; he rounded the keeper and shot into an empty net (just the start they needed). Good work from Brooks found the ever dependable B. Talbot and he fired high into the net, then as always the lads felt sorry for their opponents and gifted them a goal. Pressure was on now but the defence played well and held firm, just before half time Robb out-stripped the home defence and coolly fired across the keeper and into the bottom corner. With the slight wind advantage in the second half the lads settled quickly and the home keeper produced some good saves but it was Robb again who played in Glasgow and he stroked the ball into the top corner, Robb completed his hat-trick with a cool finish high into the net. This weeks Man of the Match was obviously Robb for his 3 goals and his overall performance, but this week credit must be given to all 16 lads, every single one played their part in a great overall team performance. Now the simple task of turning this very good performance into league performances. Well done lads all the training ground hard work paid off this week. Arlesey: C. Gask, M. Veness, J. Talbot, B. Talbot, R. Howard, R. Turnbull, J. Smith, J. Towndrow, B. Robb, T. Brooks, J. Fish, J. Flint, R. Glasgow, J. Rejek, C. Marshall, J. Bailey. Report by Terry Smith |

Arlesey Blues 1-1 Bishop Stortford Town 12/11/06 A Great Day, great football, disappointing result. Two equal teams, one open game played at a good pace and lots of thrills and spills along the way with both teams close to the bottom but only one thing on their minds, 3 points. The Blues settled first and B. Talbot burst thru and fired high into the net, after 15 minutes he could have scored again thru Robb but the keeper made a fine save from the free kick. Stortford were always in the game and causing the defence to be on their toes. A sweeping move down the left exposed some slack marking and the winger smashed it into the net for 1-1 at half time. The 2nd half was all Arlesey, and I mean all Arlesey, with the lads playing some good football and peppering the Stortford goal but as hard as they tried they could not find the finish that was needed. Howard hit the post, Robb was unlucky with a header, Brooks causing confusion every time he went into the box, both Talbot twins having good chances, Smith with a bit more conviction could have got a goal and Turnbull firing over from a good position, all in all a much better performance from all the Arlesey Blues, I have never seen a more disappointed bunch of lads in my life, (which shows they care). This weeks Man of the Match was Jack Flint, a very gutsy display and over recent weeks has shown a good attitude. Arlesey Blues: C. Gask, J. Rejek, J. Talbot, M. Veness, C. Marshall, J. Flint, J. Smith, J. Towndrow, B. Robb, R. Howard, T. Brooks, J. Bailey, J. Fish, R. Glasgow, B. Talbot, R. Turnbull. Report by Terry Smith |
|
Stevenage Town 3-0 Arlesey 5/11/06 Always a tough game against Stevenage, the lads played very well and matched Stevenage ball for ball in every department and created some good chances for themselves but as in recent weeks more composure and finesse in front of goal would have seen the lads level at half time instead two untimely errors allowed Stevenage to score a couple of goals. The second half was very even but at times Arlesey had the better chances. The home keeper produced some smart saves and after last weeks disappointing result against Potton it was very pleasing to see the lads put in a very good effort in training on Friday and also carry it on into the game on Sunday. This weeks Man of the Match was Connor Gask, in the Arlesey goal, some classy saves kept the Blues in the game, well done lads. Arlesey Blues: C. Gask, M. Veness, B. Talbot, J. Flint, J. Fish, J. Towndrow, T. Brooks, C. Marshall, J. Talbot, J. Bailey, J. Rejek, B. Robb, J. Smith, R. Howard, R. Glasgow, R. Turnbull. Report by Terry Smith |

Potton Colts 2-0 Arlesey Blues 29/10/06 What can I say, we went to Potton with high expectations and came away disappointed after losing 2-0. A new formation for the Blues today, which allowed a lot more players to get forward. The lads started well and had Potton on the defensive, the keeper showing some good handling but although the Blues had the lions share of the play and good possession they could not find a way thru, but Potton did score in the first half as in recent weeks. Some indecision at the heart of the defence and the lads found themselves 1-0 down. In the second half it was all Arlesey, Howard, Robb and Veness going close but the longer the game went on the more the Blues got frustrated and could not find the final ball. Eventually Potton scored again (another suspect goal) still the lads kept going, Flint firing just over, Brooks just failing to find the target on a number of occasions and B Talbot forcing a save from the keeper, all in all a very disappointing result but one shining light was Marshall, who played at right back and had a very competent game. Still lads a nice easy game this week against Stevenage! Arlesey Blues: C. Gask, C. Marshall, J. Talbot, R. Turnbull, M. Veness, J. Towndrow, B. Talbot, J. Smith, T. Brooks, R. Howard, B. Robb, J. Flint, J. Rejek, J. Bailey, J. Fish. Report by Terry Smith |

Arlesey 0-3 Wymondley 22/10/06 Another tough game, another disappointing defeat. Although the first half was evenly matched, neither side created anything of note, but there were a lot of good battles all over the park. The midfield giving a good account of themselves as did the defence, in particular Rejek and J Talbot so 0-0 at half time.
The second half started, and all the Arlesey lads could see the game was theirs for the taking but Wymondley had other ideas and within 3 minutes had taken the lead. A Harmless cross, an unmarked player and a very weak shot under the keeper’s foot and Wymondley had the advantage. The lads had a 10 minute spell where they forced the away keeper into a couple of smart saves but then the killer goal, statues in midfield again unmarked forwards and a half hearted attempt from the keeper and the game was over for the lads and to add insult to injury Wymondley added a third. A harsh lesson to learn today chaps, all the first half’s hard work was undone by a poor 2nd half too many players running loose too many players not working hard enough and a distinct lack of communication. This weeks M.O.M. was Ben Robb, a very hard working, aggressive and disciplined performance, the next game is very important. Arlesey Blues: C. Gask, M. Veness, J. Rejek, J. Talbot, R. Turnbull, T. Bennington Youth 5-1 Arlesey 15/10/06 A tough game against last years league winners Bennington was made even harder by the lads in ability to work hard as a unit and at least mark a man. After a good 10 mins it was even but as a corner was delivered and not cleared properly it fell to an unmarked man who slotted it in the corner. B. Talbot had a good chance to equalize but the keeper recovered after his mistake and made the save. Then a long ball over the top found the left winger moving forward, he took it in his stride and hit a weak shot but it managed to beat the keeper at his near post. With only minutes to go to half time Bennington made Arlesey look like statues, from their own goal kick, they played it down the left hand side, one two’s all the way, crossed to the edge of the box to an unmarked midfielder who smashed the goal of the game. After a half time chat the lads came out with a point to prove and 3 minutes in, Robb rose to head a good goal. All the lads were trying to push Bennington and with a tad more luck we should have scored again but the ball was cleared off the line. For a 15 minute spell the home team was all at sea, but Arlesey could not take advantage of this and it was Bennington who ran off winners. This weeks M.O.M. was Josh Smith who this week gave a gritty and determined performance, always gives 110% and takes a lot of stick from his No.1 fan. Remember, talk, mark and move and do the basics. Arlesey: C. Gask, J. Rejek, M. Veness, R. Turnbull, J. Talbot, B. Talbot, J. Towndrow, J. Smith, J. Bailey, T. Brooks, B. Robb, R. Glasgow, J. Flint, J. Fish. Report by T.Smith |

Arlesey Blues 4-0 Maulden Magpies County Cup 8/10/06 The Blues first win of the season came in the County Cup against a very resilient and hard working Maulden Magpies side. The game started brightly, both sides putting a huge effort in to try and counteract the other; consequently a lot of play was in midfield where Arlesey held their own. Gradually Arlesey put Maulden under the cosh but some good defending kept it level, then Howard was clean thru but his mis-cued shot missed the target. With 10 mins left in the first half Robb’s persistence paid dividends, he hussled and bussled his way thru like a battering ram and forced the ball over the line. The 2nd half started as brightly as the winter sun, but after 10 minutes more, persistent play from B Talbot saw him score from an acute angle, this goal knocked the stuffing out of Maulden and gave Arlesey a chance to make a few substitutes. On came Flint, Bailey, Glasgow, Fish and Brooks and all 5 were soon playing as well as the other lads who came off. From a Flint thru ball, Howard was on to it in a flash, as the keeper came out the ball was lobbed over him agonizingly hitting the bar but from the goalmouth scramble that followed Robb got his second. From a fine Glasgow run he won a corner and when it was floated in, Howard rose unchallenged and scored a rare header, Marshall had a good effort saved by the keeper, Fish also had a very encouraging debut for the Blues. A flattering score line for Arlesey, Maulden should be proud of their efforts as Arlesey defender Rejek won this weeks M.O.M. for a very good all round performance, his attitude and determination is always 100% a very true and honest lad. Things to still work on in training are, to talk more, pass the ball quicker and to keep your positions, well done chaps you never gave up. Arlesey: C. Gask, J. Rejek, M. Veness, R. Turnbull, J. Talbot, J. Towndrow, J. Smith, B. Talbot, C. Marshall, B. Robb, R. Howard, J. Bailey, J. Flint, R. Glasgow, J. Fish, T. Brooks. Report by T.Smith |

Baldock Templars 1-1 Arlesey Town 24/9/06 The Blues of Arlesey could and should have won this game with ease. Baldock had the wind advantage and pushed Arlesey all the way in the first half with the lads playing good football and with the side having a good shape and balance today, it was the Blues who struck first, new signing Robb controlled the ball, cut inside and floated the ball over the defence, rounded the keeper and stroked the ball into the empty net. Baldock were limited to long range shots, which Gask saved with ease, from one of the corners the lads fell asleep and from the resulting header Gask produced a wonder save, the lads thought they had survived until h/t but with 2 minutes to go Baldock were level. The 2nd half Arlesey were fired up and from the off Howard was clean thru but the keeper made a good save, next B Talbot fired in a good shot but again the keeper pulled off a smart save, then Smith hit the bar from 18 yards, numerous chances went begging for Arlesey and gradually the home team gained an advantage but the back four ably marshaled by Turnbull and Marshall held firm. Lots of plus’s today and lots of shots, lots of composure and a good all round defensive display from the whole team. This weeks M.O.M. was Gask in the Arlesey goal, after last weeks disaster he was back to his confident best, good talking, good handling, some super saves and one in particular reminiscent to Gordon Banks. Well done lads a good battling performance, remember every game is like a cup final. Report by T.Smith |

Apollo 3-0 Arlesey Blues 17/9/06 The harsh realities of Div. 1 football for the Blues were evident today. Apollo’s slick passing, good movement and 2 very quick forwards gave the lads a rude awakening. From the off they pulled the midfield and defenders all over the place and created good chances, but lack of composure kept the score 0-0 for most of the first half. Good defending from Veness, J. Talbot and Turnbull almost saw the lads over the line for h/t but with minutes to go, sloppy play from the Blues midfield allowed Apollo some space and the ball was in the net. Maybe a little unjust considering all the effort from the previous 33 minutes. Report by T.Smith |

Arlesey Blues 0-0 Potton Colts 10/9/06 A new season has begun and for the Blues it could not have come quick enough. The lads have put a lot of effort in during pre-season and today was the day it was needed in terms of effort, commitment and work rate. Potton were a strong side as they always are and kept the Blues pushed back for most of the game. The chances were few and far between, in the first half there was a few goal-mouth scrambles and last ditch defending from the Blues but try as they might they could not find a way to penetrate the Potton defence.
