MATCH REPORT ATY FC UNDER 13’S 22/4/2007

This was Arlesey’s last match of the season and it was a game that they had to win to stay at the top. Arlesey were slow to start but a few early warnings from Stevenage soon woke them up and they started to create chances. Arlesey were quick on the break but centre forward Nathan Robertson just couldn’t find the target and six good chances went begging before Robertson put Arlesey in front 20 minutes in. Stevenage were up for the game and pushed Arlesey for the equaliser but the defence stood strong with the first half finishing 1-0 to Arlesey.

In the second half Arlesey came out looking a much more focused side and it wasn’t long before Lewis Gentle found the back of the net after some great link up play that started in defence. Arlesey were now in command but were still struggling to finish in front of goal and a few more chances went begging before midfielder Mason Brown put Arlesey 3-0 up and they now looked to have the game won. Robertson went on to score again before full time and Stevenage managed to score a consolation goal. Arlesey finish the season on top but it looks likely that Hormede and Stevenage Colts could join them on points leaving an exciting prospect of a 3 way play off to decide who finishes as champions. Man of the match was awarded to Jack Flint who gave another faultless performance in defence. Well done Arlesey lets hope we can go all the way.

ARLESEY TOWN YOUTH vs STEVENAGE BOROUGH STRIPES 1/4/2007

A win for Arlesey this week could see them go clear top for the first time since the start of the season. Arlesey were slow to start and Stevenage piled on the early pressure going 1-0 up after winning a free kick on the edge of Arlesey’s box. Arlesey soon got the message that Stevenage meant buisiness and this forced them to step it up a gear and it wasn’t long before they found the equaliser with a poachers goal scored by midfielder Michael Chellew. The game now 1-1 Arlesey seemed more settled and it was another poachers goal that put them in front this time Jay Lawrence showing great anticipation as the keeper spilled the ball and Lawrence thumped it home. Arlesey now took control of the game and Arlesey's defender Jack Flint was like a brick wall at the back every thing that came through the centre he dealt with and defence turned into attack with every clearance. Arlesey’s centre forward Nathan Robertson and Left midfielder Lewis Gentle were linking up well and Nathan scored 2 cracking goals in the first half and Stevenage were unlucky to concede an own goal making the first half scoreline 5-1.

The second half Arlesey started with more urgency and it didn’t take long for Robertson to complete his hatrick after a great ball through from Jordan Cooper. Now 6-1 up Arelsey were really enjoying the game and were playing some really nice football. The defence was strong and Flint was commanding the game from the back. Showing blistering pace Robertson broke free time and time again and scored a wonder goal making it 7-1. Stevenage were determined and grabbed 1 back making it 7-2 but Arlesey weren’t done yet and after winning a penalty Arlesey keeper stepped up to score after the initial shot was parried straight into his path. The final score was 8-2 and Arlesey are top. Man of the match was awarded to Jack Flint for a top class defensive performance. Well done to all!

ATYFC UNDER 13’S VS BISHOP STORTFORD ROVERS FC 25/3/2007

With it being so close at the top of the table every result for Arlesey is now crucial and it was important that the team put in a good performance to keep them in the race for the title. Arlesey started brightly and within minutes were a goal up after two great passes in a move started by Alex Johnson allowed Lewis Gentle to break through the Stortford defence and smash the ball into the net. Arlesey looked dangerous with every attack and Stortford were struggling to keep them at bay. The Arlesey boys looked hungry and the pressure they were applying to Stortford was soon rewarded with another goal as Johnson and Gentle linked up again and Gentle tucked in Arlesey's second goal to make it 2-0. Bishop Stortford couldn’t keep Arlesey out of their half and considering the pressure Arlesey put them under they did well to finish the half at 4-0 with goals coming from Nathan Robertson and Lewis Gentle completing another hatrick.

The second half Arlesey were again all over Bishop Stortford and it wasn’t long before they extended their lead with goals scored by Jack Flint, Jay Lawrence, Nathan Robertson who also went on to complete a hatrick, Jordan cooper, Mason Brown and Lewis Gentle. Bishop Stortford battled hard and never let their heads drop but Arlesey were too strong and the final score ended 11-0. Another good team performance from the Arlesey boys. Man of the match was awarded to Alex Johnson for his fine performance that created many chances within the game. Well-done lads!!

STEVENAGE BOROUGH TIGERS vs ARLESEY TOWN YOUTH 18/3/2007

Another important game for the Arlesey lads, as the season draws to its end Arlesey knew it was vital that they didn’t drop points with things being so tight at the top of the table. Arlesey started well and looked sharp on the ball, a couple of good runs down the wing from Alex Johnson settled them into a good rhythm and Stevenage were under pressure. It wasn’t long before Arlesey made the breakthrough and the first goal was a corker scored from distance by Nathan Robertson who flicked the ball up in the air and hit it on the volley 1-0 to the blues. Arlesey kept the pressure on and two minuets later the blues were 2-0 up with a long-range effort from Lewis Gentle. Arlesey were up for this and looked strong on the ball, but Stevenage weren’t going to give Arlesey an easy ride and they made it 2-1 catching Arlesey on the break, and then Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett was forced to make a fine save to keep Stevenage from drawing level. This forced Arlesey to step up a gear and they made it 3-1 when a free kick was whipped in and Nathan Robertson headed the ball into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance. Now Arlesey had control of the game again and were looking to increase the score. It wasn’t long before Jack flint scored a peach of a volley after some good teamwork from the lads opened up a gap in the Stevenage defence 4-1 to the blues. Just before half time Lewis Gentle found the back of the net again with a well struck long range shot and the first half finished 5-1.

Arlesey came out in the second half knowing that they were against the wind and knew they would have to battle against the elements. The second half was end-to-end football, but Arlesey were first to score with another goal from Lewis Gentle completing his third hatrick in 4 games. Arlesey were well in control now and another win was on the cards. With 10 minutes left Stevenage scored pulling 1 back but the score now was 6-2 and Stevenage were running out of time. Both teams were getting tired but Arlesey managed one last attack as Ross Tierney crossed the ball and set Lewis up to finish the game 7-2 to Arlesey. Man of the match was awarded to Lewis Gentle for a true captains performance. All together a great team performance lads and lets keep it up for the rest of the season!

MATCH REPORT HATFIELD YOUTH VS ATY FC 11/3/2007

Arlesey were in top form again this week and produced another good performance to earn them the 3 points they needed to stay in second position. The first half was very tight even though Arlesey took the lead from a well taken corner that Jack Flint connected with and hammered it into the back of the net. Hatfield drew level when they caught Arlesey on the break and slotted the ball away to make it 1-1. The game flowed from end to end and Arlesey’s defence had to be at their very best to keep Hatfield at bay. The first half finished level and the game was evenly poised with either team looking as though they could go on to win.

The second half Arlesey seemed to step it up a gear and they suddenly looked more confident in their play. After being awarded a free kick for a fowl just outside the area Lewis Gentle whipped in the free kick and poor judgement by the goalie saw it bounce into the goal and Arlesey were 2-1 up. From then on there was no stopping the Arlesey boys and they went on to finish the game with a fantastic long range shot scored by Mason Brown and a very well taken goal scored from a corner by Lewis Gentle. The Arlesey defenders Jack Flint, Craig Sowden, Shane Parker and Kieran Sinclair put in an almost faultless defensive display giving Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett a fairly easy day at the office, Jack Flint was awarded man of the match for his excellent performance.

MATCH REPORT FOR 4/3/2007 BALDOCK TOWN LANCERS VS ARLESEY TOWN YOUTH

Arlesey have been in fine form of late and they were hoping for another win to keep them in second place in the league. The conditions were far from perfect so Arlesey knew they were going to have to work hard battling the team the wet pitch and the wind. Arlesey kicked off and looked confident on the ball charging forward and Baldock were immediately under pressure. Two minutes in and disaster struck, a long ball over the top from the goal kick caught the Arlesey defence out and Baldock took the early lead. They extended their lead to 2 goals minutes later with an exact copy of the first goal and the Arlesey lads were stunned. This now seemed to kick the Arlesey boys into gear and they started to deal with the wind and the Baldock attack much better. Fifteen minutes in and Arlesey got a goal back with some nifty footwork from Jack Flint beaten 3 players and tucking the ball away nicely to start the comeback. Minutes later and Arlesey were on the attack again this time Lewis Gentle showing off his quick footwork after receiving a fantastic pass from Jay Lawrence and finishing with a punishing left foot shot, 2-2 and poised for a tantalising second half.

The second half Arlesey looked much more composed and with the wind now on their side the game was set up nicely. Five minutes in and Arlesey took the lead with a wonder goal from Nathan Robertson 3-2 up and Arlesey now had the bit between their teeth. Baldock battled back but the defence were alert and quickly dealt with any attack pushing the ball straight back up field pressurising Baldock all the way. Arlesey scored again this time with Mason Brown taking full advantage of a poor goal kick and finished it, as a striker should. Now 4-2 up Arlesey where cruising and both Lewis Gentle and Nathan Robertson went on to complete hatricks with some of the best goals scored this season one of those being a bicycle kick from Lewis and along range volley from Nathan. Baldock did manage to get a goal back but by now Arlesey had the game well won and their unbeaten run extends to 16 games. Man of the match was awarded to Nathan Robertson for his fine midfield performance and a nicely taken hatrick.

MATCH REPORT ARLESEY TOWN YOUTH UNDER 13’S VS STEVENAGE BOROUGH TIGERS 25/2/2007

Arlesey now unbeaten in their last 14 games new that it was another crucial game, and a game that was a must win if they were to stay in second position. Arlesey started well and within minutes went a goal up with some quick smart passing that caught the Stevenage defence napping and Arlesey midfielder Alex Johnson tucked away a very nicely taken goal. The lead didn’t last long and Stevenage equalised when they caught Arlesey on the break and the game was back to all square. Arlesey pressurised Stevenage well but Stevenage defended in numbers and once they had settled were difficult to break down. A good 20 minutes of play went by with end-to-end football and credit to the defence on both teams they were dealing with everything. Arlesey finally managed to break through the defence and set centre forward Ross Jeram through on goal and he didn’t disappoint finding the back of the net for Arlesey's 2nd goal making it 2-1.The first half finished with Arlesey on top but they needed to step up a gear if they were going to win the game.

The second half Arlesey did just that and they were playing some nice flowing football that in its self was creating problems for Stevenage. Arlesey then took a 3-1 lead with a fine left foot finish from Arlesey’s left mid fielder Lewis Gentle and it now looked as though they had really settled into the game. Arlesey were now in top gear and were putting the Stevenage side under relentless pressure and for their efforts gained another goal when Arlesey centre forward Mason Brown found the perfect position to tuck the ball away close range the chance being created from a free kick. Now 4-1 up it looked all over, but Stevenage had other ideas and had it not been for a fantastic save from Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett Stevenage would have closed the gap. This close shave seemed to give the Arlesey boys a new sense of urgency and after some great passing of the ball Arlesey’s Lewis Gentle found himself with his second goal scoring opportunity and again he blasted it home with his left, 5-1. Gentle went on to complete his hatrick and a great goal from Stevenage in the dying minutes of the game saw the score line end up 6-2 to Arlesey. Another win now 15 games unbeaten a fine team performance. Man of the match was awarded to Lewis Gentle for his well-taken hatrick and a fine captains performance.

MATCH REPORT UNDER 13’S ROYSTON CELTIC GREENS VS ATY FC 18/2/2007

Another important game for the Arlesey lads, and if they were to keep their hopes of promotion alive it was another must win game. Arlesey started brightly and soon had Royston under pressure. A good early through ball put Arlesey’s Lewis Gentle through on goal and he tucked the ball away with precision to give Arlesey the lead. Royston were struggling to clear the ball and Arlesey were taking full advantage and managed to force a corner. After scoring the first Gentle floated in the perfect cross and Arlesey’s Jack Flint put it firmly in the Royston goal 2-0. Arlesey had the start they were looking for and new that they needed to keep the pressure on Royston. Arlesey did exactly that and were playing nice football. It wasn’t long before they were 3-0 up with a nicely taken goal from Nathan Robertson. Arlesey were in top gear now, the defence were solid and Craig Sowden was putting in a fine defensive performance that seemed to make the team more confident when on the attack. At half time Arlesey were 3-0 up and seemed to be cruising.

The second half started as it had ended with Arlesey straight on the attack, but Royston seemed more organised and after a good 10 minutes had Arlesey on the back foot. The back 4 defended well and Arlesey caught Royston on the break threading the ball nicely through for centre forward Mason Brown, who couldn’t have finished it better. Arlesey now 4-0 up looked to have the game won, but Royston weren’t finished yet and a quick through ball caught the midfield sleeping and Royston took full advantage floating a perfectly weighted ball over the keepers head 4-1. The comeback was short lived and a goal mouth clearance went straight to Gentle who fired the ball back in and Brown volleyed it into the top corner making the points safe and taking Arlesey’s unbeaten run to 14 games another fine team performance. Man of the match was awarded to Craig Sowden for his first class defensive display.

Arlesey 3-0 Hormede Hares

This was an important game for Arlesey and they needed another good performance to keep them in the title race. Arlesey started the game strong and soon had Hormede under pressure. Arlesey forced the pace of the game and bossed well from the midfield. The defence were strong and Arlesey were catching Hormede on the break and it was from one of these breaks that Arlesey took the lead with a scorching shot from midfielder Nathan Robertson that dipped under the bar catching the keeper off his line. This goal lifted Arlesey’s confidence and another soon followed with a great ball through from Mason Brown (midfield) sending Alex Johnson on 1 of his scintillating runs producing a fine finish to put Arlesey 2-0 up. This second goal really brought the game to life and Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett had to pull off 3 fine saves, one of those being a penalty kick to keep Arlesey at 2-0 going in at half time.

The second half seemed to start a little slower but once the boys realised the game wasn’t over the pace picked up and the second half looked an exciting prospect. Ten minutes into the second half Arlesey’s left midfielder Lewis Gentle blew away the defence down the left hand side and crossed in a perfect ball for Arlesey’s Ross Jeram to slot away the 3rd goal taking Arlesey to a cosy 3-0 lead. Hormede weren’t beaten yet and some good pressure play earnt them a second penalty. Fortunately for Arlesey Sam Bonnett was on fire in goal and with another fine save he managed to keep a clean sheet and walked away with man of the match for his heroic display. Arlesey won the game 3-0 and proved themselves worthy contenders for the league.

Thaxted Youth  3-5 Arlesey Town Youth

This was an important game for Arlesey and they needed another good performance to keep them in the title race. Arlesey started the game strong and soon had Thaxted under pressure. A good through ball from left midfielder Lewis Gentle saw centre forward Nathan Robertson through on goal and he didn’t disappoint with a fine strike to the bottom corner. It wasn’t long before Robertson added a second goal after some good pressure forced the Thaxted defence to faulter and Robertson thumped the ball home to give Arlesey a 2-0 lead. Arlesey looked strong and dominated the first half scoring 3 more goals before half time taking them to a 5-1 lead at half time, Robertson having secured his hatrick and the other 2 goals coming from Midfielder Ross Jeram and the other was an own goal.

This was certainly a game of 2 half’s and Thaxted started the second half very well forcing Arlesey to defend for long spells. Thaxted came back strongly at Arlesey in the second half and some fine saves from Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett and some great defensive play from Arlesey’s Jack Flint helped Arlesey keep the score line at 5-3 giving Arlesey an unbeaten record of 11 games on the trot. Another good performance from the Arlesey boys and man of the match was awarded to Jack Flint for his solid defensive performance.

BSCFC Rangers 0-4 Arlesey

Arlesey now sitting in 3rd position in the table were well aware of the importance of taking maximum points in this game and keeping their hopes of promotion alive. Due to the heavy rains the pitch was very boggy and both teams were facing a difficult game. Both teams started slowly but after 5 or so minutes Arlesey settled into their stride and started to worry the Stortford defence with some good attacking play. The pitch was very slow due to the water and judging the pace of the ball was difficult for both teams. After 15 minutes of play Arlesey finally made the break-through and centre forward Mason Brown followed up on a shot that Stortford’s keeper could only parry, 1-0 to Arlesey and this seemed to be the lift they needed as Arlesey soon increased their lead with a second goal from Jack Flint on his return to his old team giving Arlesey a firm grip on the game. The latter part of the second half Arlesey really piled on the pressure looking to finish the game and were rewarded with a well taken goal again from Mason Brown taking hiss tally to 2 and giving the team a 3-0 lead at half time.

The second half both teams came out a lot more alert and Stortford started to pressurise the Arlesey defence, but they held firm and some great tackles from defenders Kieran Sinclair, Shane Parker and Craig Sowden kept Stortford at bay. As the second half progressed Arlesey’s confidence in their defence and Keeper grew and it was 10 minutes into the second half that Arlesey were on the score sheet again this time with another well taken goal from Arlesey’s super sub Jordan Cooper. With the game now well won Arlesey could relax a little and enjoy the rest of the game knowing that their 9 game unbeaten run still continued and their chances of promotion were still well and truly alive. Man of the match was awarded to Ross Jeram for a scintillating midfield performance that created all kinds of problems for the opposition. Well done lads a good team performance.

Arlesey 7-3  Buntingford Cougar Whites

Undefeated in their last 8 games Arlesey’s confidence levels were high going into this game, the two teams met prior to Christmas and the game ended 2-2 so they were well aware that a tough game was on the cards. Arlesey started slowly and it took them a good 10 minutes to settle into the game, Buntingford punished Arlesey for the slow start and some sloppy defending allowed them an easy opener. The goal seemed to be the wake up call Arlesey needed and they started to pass the ball much more fluently creating some good chances and it wasn’t long before Arlesey drew level with a well-taken goal from midfielder Michael Chellew. The momentum now swung Arlesey’s way and the pressure Arlesey were now applying was causing Buntingford all kinds of problems. Chellew broke free from the defence and put Arlesey in front with another well-taken goal. Arlesey then seemed to take their foot off the gas and this allowed Buntingford to equalise just before half time, the first half finished 2-2 and Arlesey new they needed to step it up a gear if they were to take the points.

The second half Buntinford started well and piled on the pressure and Arlesey struggled to clear the goalmouth again and gifted Buntingford an easy goal. Buntingford now 3-2 up were in the driving seat and Arlesey needed to dig deep, and that’s exactly what they did. Arlesey’s mid fielder Ross Jeram chased the ball in and the keeper fumbled leaving an open goal and he calmly tucked the ball away to level the match again. The game now swung in Arlesey’s favour and from the equaliser onwards Arlesey played some lovely football. Buntingford were really struggling to keep Arlesey at bay and it wasn’t long before Chellew was on the score sheet with a great goal completing a well-deserved hatrick. Arlesey were now cruising and Buntingford were running out of steam and the Arlesey midfielders Lewis Gentle and Mason Brown were carving the defence open with every attack. A great ball in from Lewis Gentle set Midfielder Alex Johnston through on goal and he finished it with a firm right foot into the corner. A few minutes later a floating cross from Mason Brown gave Johnson another chance on goal and he tucked it away to make it 6-3 and the game looked all but over. There was one more goal to come and it came from Arlesey defender Nathan Robertson who picked up the ball in midfield and ran 40 yards with it and finished it as well as any striker. It was a fine performance from the Arlesey boys, from Keeper through to striker and a well deserved win. Man of the match was awarded to Michael chellew for his fine midfield performance and his well-taken Hatrick

Arlesey Town 4-2 Baldock Town Knights

Arlesey have been on a roll in recent weeks and having only played and beaten Baldock last week their confidence levels were good. Arlesey started the first half against the wind and it was a real struggle to get any distance on the ball. Baldock were up for it as we expected and piled on some early pressure, and with the wind on their side Arlesey struggled to counter act. It took Arlesey a good ten minutes to settle but gradually they started pushing Baldock back and won a corner. Lewis Gentle crossed the ball in with some real pace and midfielder Mason Brown hit a great volley and Arlesey were in front. This goal inspired Arlesey and they took the opportunity to pressurise Baldock and they looked dangerous with every break. Baldock then against the run of play were awarded a penalty for handling inside the box and Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett made himself look as big as he could and good fortune shone on Arlesey as Baldock hit the post. Arlesey’s second goal came from a goalmouth scramble that left Arlesey midfielder Ross Jeram with a chance on goal and he made no mistake as he thundered it into the net. Baldock battled hard to the end of the half but were unable to break through Arlesey’s defence and the first half finished 2-0.

Baldock stated the second half brightly but were caught with a counter attack from Arlesey and they converted from another corner, this time it was midfielder Craig Sowden who tucked the ball away and Arlesey were cruising. Arlesey were on top of the game now and some great one two passing from Mason Brown and Lewis Gentle put Baldock under the cosh again, they cleared their lines but the ball fell to Arlesey defender Stuart Parcell who struck the ball with such venom from just past the half way line and it flew into the top of the net, a fantastic goal from a player only just returning from injury. The game looked over now for Baldock but they weren’t going down without a fight, and to their credit they pulled 2 goals back in the last ten minutes and I think Arlesey were pleased to hear the final whistle. The final score was 4-2 to Arlesey. Man of the match was awarded to Lewis Gentle for a true captains performance from start to finish.

Arlesey 3-1 Hatfield Youth

Over the past few weeks Arlesey have had some good results and to keep their chances of finishing near the top of the table they needed to keep the run of good form going. Hatfield started the first half strongly and made it difficult for Arlesey to settle. The Hatfield defence were quick and well organised and were matching any attacking play with solid defending not giving the Arlesey forwards time to compose themselves for a decent run on goal. Arlesey weren’t passing the ball as well as they had in previous games and were always finding 1 man too many. The game flowed from end to end without any real chance on goal for either team and this was the pattern for about the first 25 minutes. Hatfield were getting the ball forward and seemed to be growing in confidence with every kick. With 5 minutes left until half time Hatfield broke through taking full advantage of Arlesey’s lack of concentration and tucked away the opening goal. 1-0 to Hatfield and Arlesey were under pressure.

The second half Arlesey started to play football and they started to settle and look more composed as a team. Hatfield carried on piling on the pressure but Arlesey were getting closer to grabbing an equaliser as they started to win more set pieces and corners. Ten minutes into the second half Arlesey midfielder Lewis Gentle provided a great floating cross from a corner and Mason Brown showed great ball control as he brought it down on his right foot and tucked it away to make it 1-1. This lifted Arlesey’s game and the football began to flow. Arlesey were now in control and the pressure was coming Hatfield’s way, some good 1 touch passing and a great cross from Midfielder Mason Brown set Jay Lawrence up for a volley in front of goal, he connected sweetly with the ball and the keeper had no chance as Arlesey took the lead for the first time with 60 minutes now played. The Arlesey defence was solid and Hatfield couldn’t break through as Shane Parker and Kieran Sinclair cut out the wide play and Nathan Robertson and Michael Chellew stood strong in the centre. Arlesey pushed forward at every opportunity and some great saves from Hatfields keeper against shots from Jay Lawrence and Lewis Gentle kept them in the game. In the dying minutes of the game a great through ball from defence was picked up by midfielder Lewis Gentle and after beating 2 players he struck the ball from distance with venom and the keeper could only watch as the ball flew into the bottom corner and the chances of a comeback for Hatfield slipped away. The game ended 3-1 to Arlesey and man of the match was awarded to Lewis Gentle for a commanding midfield performance and a great goal to top it off.

Team: Sam Bonnett, Lewis Gentle (1 motm), Jay Lawrence (1), Mason Brown (1), Craig Sowden, Alex Johnson, Ross Jeram, Michael Chellew, Shane Parker, Nathan Robertson, Kieran Sinclair, Ross Tierney, Jordan Cooper, Stuart Parcell.

Arlesey 7-1 Baldock Lancers

For the first time in 4 games Arlesey had a full squad to choose from and confidence levels were good. The game started at a steady pace and for the first 10 minutes it was a bit of a stale mate with few chances at either end. The Arlesey boys were a bit slow in waking up but as the game progressed the tempo slowly increased and Baldock started to struggle with the persistent attacking runs from the midfield and centre forwards. It wasn’t long before Arlesey got the break they were looking for and it was provided by some good build up play from the midfield and a superbly timed through ball from Jay Lawrence that set Arlesey’s centre forward Alex Johnson up on goal and he coolly stroked the ball past the keeper to put Arlesey 1 up. This was the tonic that Arlesey needed to kick start them into action and some great link up play and one touch football saw them start to open up Baldock’s defence and the chances started to come thick and fast. Midfield were well into their stride and were providing some great balls through that set Arlesey’s centre forwards up for some more great chances and in a matter of minutes Arlesey were 4-0 up with goals from Mason Brown, Alex Johnson and Craig Sowden. Arlesey were in top gear now but Baldock weren’t going to give up easily and before half time they created several half chances that Arlesey’s defenders and keeper had to deal with. The first half finished 4-0 and Arlesey had good reason to be pleased with their performance so far.

The game wasn’t won yet and Arlesey new they still had to play their football and keep Baldock under pressure to stop them settling into any sort of rhythm. Arlesey started the second half as strongly as they finished the first and it wasn’t long before 4-0 became 5-0. Arlesey now surged forward attacking at every opportunity and a slight lack in concentration allowed Baldock to take advantage on the break and with all of Arlesey’s players up field it was left to Arlesey’s keeper Sam Bonnett to stand big, he made a fine save but unfortunately with no one back to clear the ball it ended in an easy tap in and Baldock pulled 1 back. At 5-1 up Arlesey were still well in control and the goal against was the only warning they needed to set about re-grouping and pulling together to open up the play for some more chances on goal. Arlesey scored twice more before the game ended 7-1 with Alex Johnson completing his hatrick and defender Nathan Robertson also getting on the score sheet. Man of the match was awarded to Jay Lawrence for a fine performance showing good creativity and fast thinking on the ball.

Team: Sam Bonnett, Mason Brown(2), Alex Johnson (3), Jay Lawrence (motm), Kieran Sinclair, Lewis Gentle, Jordan Cooper, Nathan Robertson (1), Shane Parker, Ross Tierney, Ross Jeram, Stuart Parcell, Craig Sowden (1), Michael Chellew.

Arlesey 3-1 Albion Youth

After suffering defeats in their last 2 games Arlesey needed to get back to winning ways. Albion started brightly and pressurised Arlesey from the kick off which seemed to take Arlesey by surprise and the lads struggled to settle into the game. Albion created a few early chances and Arlesey’s keeper Sam Bonnett pulled off some good saves to keep it at 0-0. After about 10 minutes Arlesey settled and started to trouble the Albion defence. Arlesey kept the pressure on and were awarded a penalty after the opposition handled the ball. This was Arleseys first penalty of the season and the pressure was on as Kieran Sinclair stepped forward to take it. After placing the ball on the spot he took 3 steps and tucked it right into the bottom right hand corner. Arlesey now 1-0 up needed to keep the pressure on and try to extend the lead. After scoring the goal Arlesey ‘s game dropped off and Albion took full advantage firing home an equaliser after Arlesey’s defence struggled to clear their lines. The momentum of the game now switched Albions way And Arlesey defended well as Albion drove forward looking to take the lead. Arlesey soaked up the pressure well and gradually started to get back on song. Half time finished 1-1.

The second half Arlesey started more confidently and they knew that to win this game they would have to dig deeper. The midfield started to boos the game and some great balls through from Michael Chellew and Lewis Gentle seemed to lift the team’s confidence. Now playing some good football Arlesey looked as though they now in control and a great ball through from Craig Sowden saw Arlesey forward Mason Brown through on goal and he calmly tucked away Arelseys second. Albion weren’t beaten yet and they raised their game again and drove forward with determination looking to pull the game level again, fortunately the defence held strong and Arleseys Defenders Kieran Sinclair, Shane Parker, Stuart Parcell and Ross Tierney all played their part. After soaking up the pressure Arlesey found their form again and a goal mouth scramble left Arlesey forward Jordan Cooper with a chance on goal and he needed no prompting as he thumped the ball into the back of the net. Arlesey played their best football in the last ten minutes, but unfortunately cold not find another goal and the game finished 3-1 to Arlesey. Man of the match was awarded to Kieran Sinclair for his fine performance in defence.

Arlesey 6-1 Albion Youth

Arlesey were in need of a positive result to lift their confidence and to get some serious points in the table. Arlesey started brightly and certainly seemed to be in a positive mood. After squandering a 2-0 lead last week they seemed as though they had something to prove and got straight down to business. The team were passing well and Albion was struggling to close down at the back. It wasn’t long before Arlesey got the early break they were looking for and after struggling to find the finishing touch in previous games Alex Johnson’s pace gave him a 1 on 1 chance with the Albion keeper and he coolly put Arlesey 1 up. Arlesey were now oozing confidence and it wasn’t long before Lewis Gentle delivered a top class ball through to set Arleseys new signing Michael Chellew up and he did not disappoint with a debut goal. Albion were really struggling to deal with Alex Johnson’s pace and it was only a matter of time before he broke free again to score his second and Arleseys third. Arlesey looked very strong going forward and Arleseys attacking play was opening holes all over the place in the Albion defence. Arlesey’s Mason Brown whipped in a corner and Jay Lawrence connected with a great header only to be denied by the cross bar. Shortly after hitting the crossbar a great ball from Alex Johnson set Jay up for another chance and this time he thumped it into the back of the net. Albion to their credit kept battling and created a few chances but Arleseys defenders Kieran Sinclair, Ross Tierney, Shane Parker and Nathan Robertson were in good form and kept Albion at Bay. Just before half time Mason Brown picked up the ball on the half way line, ran through several defenders and hit it with venom on the edge of the area it clipped the inside post and went in, a great goal to end a great half for Arlesey and Albion had a mountain to climb.

The second half Albion started the brighter of the two sides and seemed to step up a gear. Arlesey were on the back foot and found themselves under real pressure for the first time in the game. Albion showed great character and although Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett denied them twice with some great saves they finally broke through the Arlesey defence and scored great goal from just inside the box. For a short period of time Arlesey looked rattled but they regrouped and it wasn’t long before Albion were under pressure again. Arlesey had 2 goals disallowed in the second half one scored by Lewis Gentle disallowed for an infringement on the keeper and 1 scored by Jay Lawrence disallowed for off side. The game stayed at 5-1 until about 8 minutes from the end when a blistering run from Alex Johnson saw him through on goal again and he neatly lobbed the keeper for his hatrick. The game ended 6-1 to Arlesey and man of the match was awarded to Alex Johnson for his attacking play and his 3 well-taken goals.

Team: Sam Bonnett, Alex Johnson (3-motm), Lewis Gentle, Michael Chellew (1), Jay Lawrence (1), Mason Brown (1), Shane Parker, Ross Tierney, Craig Sowden, Nathan Robertson, Jordan Cooper, Kieran Sinclair, Ross Jeram.

Stevenage Colts 2-2 Arlesey

Arlesey new that this was not going to be an easy game having already played Stevenage colts first game of the season and losing 7-6 on that occasion. Arlesey were confident the return match would be just as good and both teams did not disappoint. Arlesey started brightly as usual and got straight to work on pressurising the Stevenage defence determined to make an early mark on the game. Stevenage looked a bit shell shocked by Arlesey’s desire to drive forward and struggled to deal with Arlesey’s early attacking play. It wasn’t too long before Arlesey created a good clear chance with a great through ball from Lewis Gentle and centre forward Mason Brown coolly tucked it into the bottom corner. Stevenage now a goal down new that Arlesey meant business and Arlesey didn’t let up on the pressure. With 15 minutes of the game now played Arlesey looked in control and another great through ball this time from Kieran Sinclair saw Mason Brown with a chance to score again and this time he slotted it away into the opposite corner and Arlesey were 2-0 up. Stevenage now had their work cut out, but they stuck to their guns and had it not been for some great defending by the Arlesey back 3 and some great goalkeeping from Sam Bonnett the game could have been a lot closer at half time, as it was Arlesey finished the half 2-0 up and seemed to be well on their way to their first win.

Stevenage started the second half looking like a team that new what they had to do and they piled on the pressure relentlessly and for long periods Arlesey could do no more than soak it up. Wave after wave of attacking play was cut short by Arlesey defenders Shane Parker, Nathan Robertson and Kieran Sinclair, but there was only so much they could take and finally Stevenage broke through and tucked away their first goal very decisively. Stevenage now sensed a come back and Arlesey were rattled. The Stevenage kept pushing and After Sam Bonnett made a fantastic save Arlesey were found wanting on their clearance and Stevenage smashed the equaliser into the Arlesey net. The game now 2-2 and all to play for was about as exciting as it gets, and chances both ends to finish the game were squandered the better of those chances falling for Arlesey striker Alex Johnson who’s goal attempt was thwarted by the post. The game ended up 2-2 and really was a game of 2 halves and I think everyone agreed the result was a fair one. Man of the match was awarded to Nathan Robertson for his fantastic defensive efforts, hardly putting a foot wrong all game.

Team: Sam Bonnett, Lewis Gentle, Mason Brown(2), Nathan Robertson(motm), Jay Lawrence, Kieran Sinclair, Ross Tierney, Craig Sowden, Shane Parker, Ross Jeram, Alex Johnson.

Arlesey 5-7 Bishop Stortford Athletic

After last weeks win in the county cup Arlesey were confident of their chances, and soon put their mark on the game with an early goal after 2 minutes, the goal was driven into the top of the net by midfielder Ross Jeram and Arlesey looked like a team hungry for victory. The game settled and for a good ten minutes after the goal it was evenly poised, then some strong attacking play saw Arlesey’s defence struggling to clear their lines and Bishop Stortford were gifted with an easy chance in the six yard box and from nowhere the game was level. This goal seemed to give Stortford the edge now and they really started to pile on the pressure. It wasn’t long before they were rewarded with their second goal and Arlesey were under the cosh. Arlesey showed some good resilience and against the run of play Stortford’s defence were caught short and some great passing and a little flick saw the ball sit up nicely for Arlesey’s Ross Tierney to thump in the equaliser. With the game even it was all still to play for. Stortford now rattled by Arlesey’s desire for battle dug deeper and Arlesey found themselves once again being pushed back, and after struggling to clear their lines again once again found themselves a goal down. With the score line now 3-2 Arlesey needed to come back quick to keep the game alive, and within minutes that’s exactly what they did. A great through ball saw Lewis Gentle break free from the Stortford defence and level the match again. What a game this was turning out to be, it was end to end stuff and both keepers were kept busy, Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnett made some cracking saves to keep Arlesey in the running and bossed the game from the back. Unfortunately for all of Arlesey’s efforts, half time finished with them a goal down having succumbed to another strong attack from Stortford.

After the half time chat Arlesey new what they had to do and they got straight back to work. Some good attacking play was soon rewarded as Arelsey defender Nathan Robertson went on one of his usual defence to attack runs and broke clear of the Stortford defence and coolly made the game level again. Now Arlesey seemed to take command and they looked like a team hungry for the win, but wave after wave of attacking play just couldn’t produce the end result and cruelly against the run of play Stortford punished Arlesey with some great passing that opened up the defence and Arlesey again were behind. The lads battled hard and stuck to the task, but even though Lewis Gentle scored again to make it 6-5 to Stortford, and keep their chances alive, Stortford just always seemed to be able to find that extra bit, and the final score ended up at 7-5 to Bishop Stortford. It was a cracking game of football to watch and really could have gone either way; we would like to wish Bishop Stortford good luck in the next round. Man of the match was awarded to Arlesey’s goalkeeper Sam Bonnett for some great saves and a fine display of keeping goal.

Hormead Hares 3-1 Arlesey

Arlesey started the first half with some good early pressure straight from kick-off and were unlucky to not be a goal up in the first few minutes. Once the game settled it was evenly poised and there was some good flowing football from both teams. Arlesey paid the price for struggling to clear from the box and went a goal down and then was unlucky with an unfortunate ricochet to set Hormead up for their second. Arlesey were now 2-0 down in a game that was evenly matched. Arlesey dug deep and created some good chances but it just wasn’t happening for them and the first half finished 2-0 to Hormead.

The second half saw a bit more urgency from the Arlesey players and Hormead were on the back foot. Arlesey kept pushing and pushing and it was only a matter of time before they grabbed 1 back. It came from a well-worked pass down the right hand side and was finished off by Arleseys striker Alex Johnson. Arlesey now had the bit between their teeth and some near misses from Mason Brown, Lewis Gentle and Alex Johnson seemed to lift the team and the equalising goal looked imminent. Against the run of play Arlesey were caught on the break and rather frustrating for the lads they found themselves 3-1 down. There was some good goalkeeping from both sides and the game was played in good spirits but Arlesey just couldn’t put the chances away and that was the telling factor in the final result. Another thrilling game to watch with some excellent football played at both ends. Man of the match was awarded to Lewis Gentle for a strong midfield perf
