ArleseyTown 6-0 Baldock

After finishing last year with some good results Arlesey were hoping for a good start to the new year. Arlesey started the game confidently but it took about 5 minutes for the game to settle but when it did Arlesey were first to score with some great midfield play opening up the Baldock defence allowing Gentle to break through and neatly slot away their first goal of 2006.Arlesey dominated the first half and even when Baldock managed to break through the Arlesey defence was solid calmly dealing with the situation and constantly converted defensive play into attacking play.Arleseys second goal came from some good pressure play from midfield and Barclay broke through to put Arlesey 2 up with a clinical finish. Baldock battled on but the Arlesey keeper Bonnet gave the team the confidence to keep attacking and it wasn't long before Arlesey had their sights on goal again. This time it was Arleseys centre forward Brown who broke through with a scorching run to latch onto a great through ball from Gentle and Brown thundered home the third. Arlesey were now cruising and no matter how hard Baldock tried they couldn't keep Arlesey at bay and just before half time a great ball through from Barclay put Gentle through and he coolly finished the move to put Arlesey 4-0 up.

The second half started tamely and for a good ten minutes the game to and throwed from 1 end to the other without any team finding a finishing touch. Some good attacking play saw Arlesey win a corner and Gentle whipped the ball into the Baldock area where Barclay had positioned himself perfectly for a great header that would have beaten any keeper 5-0 and it looked a hopeless task for Baldock.Just when the game looked as though it was spent of goals Robertson broke through from a midfield position and took a shot from 20 yards, the ball dipped viciously and thundered into the top of the net, a great goal and well deserved, the final score was 6-0. It was a great team effort from the Arlesey boys and a perfect result to start the year. Man of the match was awarded to Stuart Parcell who didn't put a foot wrong in defence and with his long balls through helped create some of the attacking play that led to the goals scored.

Arlesey 4-4  Stevenage Boro Stripes

After last weeks unlucky loss Arlesey were hoping to get back to winning ways against Stevenage boro stripes. The first ten minutes Arlesey didnt look as though they wanted to play and Stevenage were giving them real problems.Fortunately for Arlesey Stevenage couldnt capitalise on Arleseys lack lustre start and once the cold air had got into their lungs Arleseys desire to play came slowly through. Some good attacking play from the midfield saw Salvaggio lay a great ball through which Gentle drove at the Stevenage goal, the keeper unable to hold the ball spilled it at Gentles feet for an easy tap in, after a rocky start Arlesey drew first blood. It didnt take long for Stevenages reply as the ball came into the Arleseys area the players struggled to clear the danger and were punished with the equaliser. The game was now truly under way and both teams looked good on attack but vulnerable in defence this was clearly going to be a game full of goals.Once again failing to clear the ball cost Arlesey dearly as a goal mouth scramble saw the last touch fall to Stevenage who stuck the ball in the back of the net making the score 2-1. Arlesey came straight back at Stevenage ans some great passing that started way back in defence saw Brown come charging through with only the keeper to beat, he struck the ball cleanly but once again Arlesey were fortunate with the rebound and Brown stuck the ball away with his second strike 2-2 game on.The game to and throwed over the next 10 minutes but it was Stevenage who once again took the lead with a great goal from Vernage.Arlesey battled hard and although Gentle equalised with his second Stevenage finished the half 4-3 up and Arlesey new they had to work hard in the second half to gain anything from this game.

The second half both teams started with more enthusiasm and it looked as though it was going to be a nail biting second half. Both teams created many chances but some great defending and goalkeeping from both teams kept the score at 4-3 right up until the last ten minutes when a chance fell to Gentle for his hatrick and he didnt need any second asking as he stuck the ball away to make it 4-4. There were more chances created from both teams but as the end of the game drew close 4-4 seemed a fair result, and thats exactly how it ended up the points were shared in a great game of football enjoyed by everyone. Man of the match was awarded to Parcell for his great defensive play and true grit and determination.

Team: Bonnet, Gentle(3), Brown(1) , Salvaggio, Robertson, Sinclair, Lawrence, Barclay, Cooper, Parcell, Parker, Sowden, Tierney.

Arlesey 6-1 Hatfield Youth

After last weeks win Arlesey were hoping that they could keep the momentum going and improve their position in the table.Arlesey started the game strongly and were playing some good free flowing football. For the first ten minutes they really bossed the game but the opening goal seemed to elude them.Hatfield really struggled with the attacking play from Arlesey and some good pressure saw a chance for Gentle to open up the scoring,a great ball in gave Gentle the space he needed he chipped the keeper only to see the ball agonisingly clip the post and rebound safely to the Hatfield defence.Moments later Arlesey forced the corner, Gentle whipped the ball in with pace and Lawrence turned it into the goal,Arlesey were 1-0 up and controlling the game. This seemed to lift the Arlesey boys and the fine passing and great movement opened up the Hatfield defence time and time again.Minutes later and a fine ball through from Barclay gave Gentle another chance, this time he made no mistake and placed the ball in the bottom corner 2-0 up and it seemed like there was more to come. The fans weren't waiting long before a great ball through from Brown saw Gentle break free again and with great vision he chipped the keeper to make it 3,Arlesey were cruising and seemed to be enjoying their football. The attacks reigned down relentlessly on Hatfield and they battled hard to clear their lines.Just before half time Arlesey were on the attack again and some clever play saw a chance fall to Cooper,He picked up the play on the edge of the box and coolly tucked it away for Arleseys 4th.

After a great first half everybody was eager for the second half to get under way. For the first part of the second half Hatfield tightened up their game and Arlesey were having to work harder to create the chances. Some good play from Hatfield saw them test out Arleseys keeper Bonnet but he dealt with them adequately. Arlesey were on the attack again when a looping ball from the Hatfield defence caught them sleeping and Hatfield had a clear chance on the Arlesey goal. The defence who had done a fantastic job in the game suddenly found themselves with too much to do and Hatfield pulled 1 back.Arlesey took this as a warning and it wasn't long before they were on the attack again Gentle now looking hungry for the hatrick.Arlesey created some fine chances that saw Brown, Sounden,Tierney, Salvaggio and Barclay all come close to scoring but either woodwork or good defending and goalkeeping kept them out.Frustration was now setting in for Gentle as he set about looking for the hatrick and although he had some great chances it looked as though it wasn't going to be. A great ball in saw Cooper break through again and slam home his second putting Arlesey 5-1 up.Hatfield kept their heads up and tried hard to break through Arleseys lines but Robertson,Sinclair,Parcell and Parker were as solid as could be and it was a great ball upfield from Parker that finally put Gentle through to complete his hatrick .A great performance from the Arlesey boys and a brave performance from Hatfield who never let their heads go down once. Man of the match was Andrew Barclay he had a great game and really was a menace in the midfield.

Baldock  0-7  Arlesey

The start of the season has seen a bag of mixed results for the Arlesey under 12s, but in recent weeks some good results have seen their confidence lifted. They started the game against Baldock with good attitude and looked like a team that were getting things together.Good early attacking play saw a chance fall to Gentle about 3 yards outside the box,he flicked the ball up in the air and caught the volley sweetly and the ball floated over the keeper putting Arlesey 1 up and looking like they meant business.Arlesey looked strong on the ball and Baldock where struggling to close down the attacking play another goal looked imminent as Arlesey attacked the defence relentlessly.Gentle slotted the pass through for Brown who had one defender and the goalie to beat, keeping a cool head he wrong footed the defender and keeper and slotted Arleseys second into the back of the net.Arlesey now 2-0 up controlled the game and although Baldock battled hard they where punished again by Brown just before half time. The Arlesey defence had played a solid first half and the rest of the team had made the attacking play count.

The second half Arlesey needed to keep their concentration if they were to keep in front and possibly extend their lead. For the first 10 minutes Baldock effectively held the Arlesey attacking play and although Barclay, Salvaggio,Lawrence and Sowden made some great chances they struggled to find the next goal. The game settled and a great overhead ball from Barclay saw Brown through for his hatrick, he took it on the half volley and the keeper tipped it into his goal, Arlesey were 4-0 up and cruising.Arlesey werent finished yet and some great initiative and movement saw a rebound shot from Brown fall to Sowden who put away  Arleseys 5th and it looked as though the victory was complete. Two minutes later and Sowden was in again firing in his second and Arleseys 6th it was a result now that Arlesey  could have only dreamt of but there was still more to come.New signing Sowden was now on for his hatrick and boy was he hungry for it,a great cross in saw Sowden rise above the Baldock defence and tuck away his 3rd goal giving him his well deserved hatrick.A great performance by the whole team and man of the match was awarded to Lawrence for his menacing little touches that wreaked havoc with the Baldock defence.

Team: Bonnet, Gentle, Salvaggio, Barclay, Parcell, Lawrence, Sinclair, Sowden, Brown, Tierney, Parker, Cooper, Robertson.

Arlesey  2-0 Stevenage Borough Tigers

After there first win of the season Arlesey started the game with a fresh and confidant attitude. The game soon settled and the teams seemed evenly matched for the first 10 -15 minutes with both sides creating chances without converting. Arlesey piled on some good pressure and were unlucky not to score as Gentle fired one in from the edge of box with his left foot and it smashed into the side netting. Stevenage defended well as Arlesey piled on the pressure and during the second quarter Arlesey seemed to be in firm control. Arleseys defence looked solid and the team gained more confidence with each attack, all they needed was the goal to give them that extra boost. It wasnt to be and the first half finished up 0-0.

Arlesey started the second half as they had finished the first, piling on the pressure and surely it was only a matter of time before they took the lead. Some good attacking play that started right back in defence saw Arlesey open up the Stevenage defence and only a solid last ditch tackle put the ball out for a corner. Gentle whipped the ball in from the right and it curved round and got the slightest deflection, Arlesey were 1-0 up and firing on all cylinders. Arlesey were well on top of the game now and the play was all in the Stevenage half. Salvaggio and Barclay made some great passes through and really menaced the Stevenage defence resulting in the Stevenage keeper spilling the ball from a close range shot from Lawrence, Lawrence followed up and was brought down by the keeper and Arlesey were awarded a penalty. Brown stepped up and cooly placed the ball into the bottom left corner,2-0 and surely Arlesey were on their way to their second win.Arlesey maintained the pressure but the Stevenage defence battled hard and the game ended at 2-0.Man of the match was awarded to Roberto Salvaggio for his great through balls and all round game.

Team: Bonnet, Gentle, Barclay, Robertson , Tierney, Parcell, Sinclair, Salvaggio, Lawrence, Brown, Parker, Sowden.

Arlesey Town Youth 3-2  Buntingford cougars whites

Its been a very tough start to the season for the ATYFC under 12's and the importance of a win was growing fast. After two cup draws against second div Hitchin and Luton at which we suffered heavy defeats of 9-0 and 7-0 Arlesey needed something to cheer about, Was it going to be their day.Arlesey started the game well and applied good pressure for the first 10 minutes taking the game to Buntingford and soon had them on the back foot. Some early chances were created but the goals werent about to come easy and frustration began to set in.Arlesey started to lose concentration and some good attacking play saw Buntingford break through the Arlesey defence and punish them with a fine finish. The goal seemed to unsettle Arlesey for  a while and it took some fine saves from Arlesey keeper Sam Bonnet to keep the game at 1-0. During the last 5 minutes of the first half Arlesey regained some of their composure and almost gained an equiliser from a great shot whipped in by Mason Brown only to be denied by the woodwork. The first half finished 1-0 and Arlesey had it all to do.The second half Arlesey seemed to be playing with more confidence and it wasnt long before they were rewarded with a fantastic goal from outside the box scored by Lewis Gentle to level the game. There now seemed to be a new found urgency from the boys and 2 minutes later Alesey took the lead with a fine goal from Mason Brown, slotted neatly into the bottom corner. For the first time in a while Arlesey could smell victory, but Buntingford werent done for yet and they took full advantage of a sleeping Arlesey team to level at 2-2.It seemed that all their hard work was slipping away and something needed to happen fast. With 5 minutes left on the clock Arlesey piled on the pressure and some fine attacking play helped Lewis Gentle break free again and cooly place the ball in the bottom corner, finally sealing the victory that was so badly needed. It was a fine performance from all the lads and a great game of football to watch. The final score ended 3-2 and man of the match was awarded to Lewis Gentle .Well done to all lets keep it going.
