Arlesey Town 2-2  Eynesbury Rovers

As a special treat the boys were given there last game of the season down at the Raj Villa Stadium, the home of Arlesey Town.

It was to be one of the best games of the season with Arlesey camped in there half for 50 minutes, Eynesbury seemed to catch us out on the break every time we closed in on goal. The lads have had an enjoyable and learning season in what was there first season at 11 aside football. On a cold night the lights powered down on the pitch to set the boys on there way, some outstanding performances from all the players, goals coming from Corey Tyler with his 18th of the season and number 44 from the top striker, Bailey Chapman-Herne.

Thanks goes to Arlesey Town for there permission to use there excellent facilities and clubhouse. Now the season has reached its climax I just want the boys to chill out for a while enjoy the summer if it ever arrives, and look forward to a few tournaments we will enter later in the year as we build for what looks like being a very promising 07/08 season ahead.

This is P Legate signing off for another season. Good night and god bless

Baldock Town 2-6 Arlesey Town

On probably the best sunday for months, the sun came out and greeted a bunch of lads who reached a goal tally of 103 so far this season with two games remaining.

The game kicked off on a pitch as tight as the Luton Town chairman, but this did not affect the lads as they went out and played some excellent football, the later kick off time suited Lewis as this ment he had two hours longer in bed which helped him, after twenty minutes he had all ready made claims for the match ball after helping himself to a neat and tidy hatrick, two more from one of the hottest strikers in the league, Bailey. He has now rattled the onion bag a cool 43 times this season and still hoping for more in the last couple of games. The defence of Sam, Alex, Callum, Andrew and  Zac were on top of there game as usual, midfield was ticking well for sixty minutes through Luke A. Luke O, Brad, Ryan and Chris.

The forwards were beaming in confidence keeping on there toes, but man of the match went to Corey this week for total commitment and a superb Tiery Tyler  like free kick with a special celebration which we would all like to see in front of the cameras and under the lights down at Arlesey Towns Raj Villa stadium on Fri 23/3/07.

From myself personally i would like to thank every single player for listening and learning this season, i am very proud of you, and if we stick together i am sure we are destined for big and better things in the future...ONCE AGAIN A MASSIVE WELL DONE FROM PAUL.BOB,AND OUR RANKS OF TRAVELLING FANS......

Arlesey Town 9-0 F.C  Comets

Arlesey went out today on a pitch that had taken a good soaking all morning, they knew it was going to be tricky treading water for an hour against a team who have conceded over 100 goals this season.

Everyone  knows that playing the little teams can sometimes be hard work, but the boys put on there flippers and went out and played there best for sixty minutes. With the wind and rain behind them they were finding it difficult with the ball over the top running long most of the time.

Then we seemed to weather the storm, dig in, and grind out a score line in which we deserved. Bailey helped himself to a cool four well taken goals to take his tally up to 41 with 3 games remaining, Lewis rose like a salmon to head home an excellent corner from Brad, captain callum who was pushed up into midfield today grabbed himself a brace.

Man of the match Luke Ankers also helped himself to a corker of a goal, every single player was a credit to themselves in what were horrible conditions.

A massive well done to you all.......

Arlesey Town 4-1 Fairlands Youth

The boys were down to bare bones this week with a couple of key players falling to the sick bug, this never reached fairlands as they turned up with seventeen players looking to get the double over us, but they came unstuck with eleven players hungry and raring to go as if it was the FA cup final at Wembley {is it finished} Our man up front was on fire yet again with two perfectly taken goals. Bailey has now reached a total of thirty seven which is an incredible achievement with four games remaining, but as I said before, this is a team game and everyone has given one hundred per cent this season. Brad and Ryan both helped themselves to a goal each, Alex, Captain Callum, Zac, Lewis, Luke O, Luke A were all on top form.  Man of the match went to Andrew today for an outstanding performance and was dedicated to his dad who was celebrating his twenty third birthday, Work that one out, the last player to mention was our rock at the back Sam the cat who was again on his toes and alert to everything  that came his way, as we close in on our season all I can say is keep going, listening, and learning and most of all have fun, right I am off down to the barbers now to get a Britney Spears hair cut....see you all on thurs.....

Arlesey 2-1 LGCE Whites

With all the bad weather we have had in the past week it was touch and go to see if this local derby would go ahead, but some excellent work from the ground staff managed to get the pitch playable in what were good footballing conditions.

Both teams are fighting for a top four position and it showed in what was a well mannered and fair game of football.

After fifteen minutes number thirty four of the season was calmly slotted away by the hitman himself Bailey. With lots of presure on the Arlesey goal the defence stood firm and lost concentration only once in the first half this allowing Letchwoth to grab an equaliser.

Second half you could just sense that the lads wanted to go out and win this game,it was all one way traffic from there on with Lewis,Corey, and Ryan all going close. Taking his turn on the bench was Bailey who was growling to come back on, Ten mins remaining and a good move through midfield, the ball was slotted over the top of the central defender only for it to fall to the man himslf Bailey the hitman Herne to chip it over the keeper and run around him to pass the ball into the net for number thirty five of the season.

MOM this week went to Bailey, not just for the two goals but for some great passing and never giving up.

Thanks goes to the officials Mr Ison and Help i need to pull my shorts up Sean Izzard. Thanks chaps i owe you a cuppa or a non alcholic lager top........

Arlesey 1-3 Wymondley Park

Playing Wymondley for the second week on the trot was to give the boys another test in what was one of the best games of the season.

Both teams gave one hundred per cent in what was a well mannered and controlled game. Before i talk about our team i must wish Wymondley the best of luck in what looks like being the team that will win this division.

Our boys went out and gave everything they could. You dont mind losing when you play well and run your socks off. Bailey the hitman sent us one nil up after ten minutes with one of his trademark goals, taking his tally upto thirty three for the season. I think a scoreline of six- six would have been a fair result but we just couldnt get past the final defender being Wymondleys man of the match, the goalkeeper. I must give credit to our lads they never  moan at decisions they just get up and play the game which is why these lads are complimented by 99% of other managers. Chris was sent out to play in a completely different posoition to any other week and deservedley picked up the man of the match award closely followed by twelve other players.  In our final six games of the season  the boys will be looking for maximum points and trying to notch up one hundred goals for the season, this is a big ask but they all feel they can do it.

So watch this space........

Wymondley Park 5-2 Arlesey

Not one bad word said about the lads all season in any of my reports, but Sundays big clash at the top of the table was gifted to Wymondley for some sloppy defending through out the game.

Give Wymondley there due, they are the best team in our league without a doubt, when you have got a lad of eleven years old who can strike a ball a full forty yards through the air, to another lad who looks like he will be in the next olympics running the one hundred metres, you dont get much joy defending situations like that.

The two forwards of Bailey and Corey worked hard closing everything down, getting there rewards with a goal each for there efforts, not much else to say really, apart from  keep your heads up lads and we will try and get our own back at home to them next week when our new signing Linford Christie will be playing.

Man of the match went to Lewis for a gritty performance and an excellent work rate....

Arlesey 2-6 Buntingford Cougars

Lge Cup

Having gone ten games without losing, it came hard for the lads on sunday in the last sixteen of the cup against a bigger, stronger, and more determined Buntingford side.

Playing a team two divisions above was always going to be a test for them, but give the boys credit they kept there heads up and battled on to get themselves two goals on the board through Bailey and Ryan. Never mind lads, keep working hard, you are doing great.

This week and next is probably the two biggest games of the season when we have a double header of home and away against Wymondley Park. Win these two games and i am sure we will reach our target of a top three position.

Dont forget to feel proud of everything you have acheived........

Broadhall Tigers 1-10 Arlesey Town

74 goals in total so far, ten games without defeat, second in the league, and a ten one victory today in what was another excellent display from this bunch of budding stars.

Conditions were perfect in what turned out to be a simple task for the lads in there big push for honours. Goal machine Bailey took his tally up to the thirty mark, with three quality goals, Lewis helped himself to his first hatrick of the season, with Corey banging in two, one of them coming from an excellent move involving six players. Alex helped himself to one aswell, sneaking in and running away with the biggest grin on his face. Then captain Marvel decided to get in on the act and he himself banged one in from 20 yards the man in question being Brad. Everyone else gave one hundred percent giving me a major headache for next weeks game when we entetain Buntingford Cougars from division one in the last sixteen of the cup. So if any of the parents have an hour spare on sunday the boys could do with all the surport they can get K.O 10.30 am. Once again chaps feel proud with your efforts, keep it up, and who knows you all might be on 82p a second like Mr Beckham.

Eynesbury Rovers 3-3 Arlesey Town

Two costly mistakes and a even bigger mistake from the match official gave the boys a slight dent in there push for promotion in what were windy conditions.

Its hard to believe that Eynesbury are scrapping around the wrong end of the table because they were very organised and up for the game. I told the boys that when you are up the top, everybody wants to beat you, three three was a good and not a bad result for us making us nine games without defeat, both goalkeepers were kept busy all through the game with there keeper having to be on his toes a bit more than Sam.

We opened the scoring after twenty minutes with Bailey slotting home number twenty seven of the campaign so far, this was followed by two good strikes by the Rovers centre forward. Corey then equalised, sneaking in at the back door to get the boys back in it, this made it two two, then the ref joined in and spoilt everything, Zac flew down the left wing, got to the corner flag went to cross the ball, then the whistle blew for an injured Rovers player on the edge of our box. Fair enough he did the right thing to stop the game straight away but it is what he did arfterwards amazed everyone, the Rovers centre forward gave it back to sam. Yes good sportsmanship on his behalf, but two minutes earlier zac was next to there corner flag about to cross, sam kicked the ball out into a gale force six wind, it fell to the lad who was injured, he said thanks very much and banged it into the net with five minutes remaining. The lads are only ten years old and you could see on there faces that they had been conned out of a goal, but i have to say they all kept very quiet, went and got the ball out of the net, grit there teeth and went in search an equaliser it finally come with two minutes left on the clock trhough the determined Bradley and captain Dobson...

Keep doing your best boys thats all you can do....

Sawbridgeworth 1-4 Arlesey Town

Goodbye 06,hurry up 07 because this set of boys just keep on getting better and better with every game they play.

On sunday we travelled for five hours across the Alps then the sahara, to finally reach our destination, a little place called muddy Sawbridgeworth. With a game just coming to an end we knew there was not going to be much of a pitch left to play our sexy football on, but give both teams credit they coped very well and played some good stuff. The first half was really all about who could keep there footing. It was Sawbo who broke the deadlock on twenty eight minutes with a well worked goal sending them in at half time one nil up.

Some tactical decisions and our little chat about the boat, the boys went out for the second half knowing they had to improve if they want to stay in contention of reaching the champions league.

On thirty eight minutes everyone was to see probably the goal of the season, Luke Ankers picked the ball up by his own corner flag and ran the whole lengh of the pitch beating four players on his way, all that was left standing in front of him was the keeper and three and a half tons of mud which lie in wait in the goalmouth, he dropped his shoulder, went round the keeper and slammed it home, being aplauded by both sets of surporters.

After that Arlesey just got better, with Chris notching up his first two goals for the team. The best move of the game came with ten minutes left, from the edge of our own area it took four passes to see the ball end up in the net at the other end. Ryan broke away down the middle, played it out wide to Brad, he looked up saw the incoming Corey who pounced and hammered the ball into the net.

Three things i have to mention is,

1. Never celebrate a goal until it has crossed the line, ask Brad he will tell you.

2. SAM,ALEX,CALLUM,ZAK,ANDREW,BRAD,RYAN,LEWIS,BAILEY,COREY,GARY,LUKE O,LUKE A,CHRIS, HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS I HOPE YOU ALL FEEL VERY PROUD BECAUSE PAUL AND BOB ARE PROUD OF WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IN 06.

Bishop Stortford Rangers 1-1 Arlesey

This was probably our best performance of the season so far against top of the table and unbeaten Bishop Stortford Rangers.Every single player gave one hundred per cent effort to grind out a result in what everyone thought was a fair scoreline. On ten minutes our top  .goal machine who was being man marked by not one but two stortford players finally broke away from them to slot away his twenty sixth  goal of the season, yes you guesed it.Bailey was the man yet  again. With both defences breaking down every attack that came there way,it was left to the midfield to start the battle on a pitch better suited for mud wrestling than football. The ever improving Zac went close right at the end with a twenty yarder that just shaved the post, player of the week went to our main man at the back and surely one of the best keepers in this division, Sam the cat Clarke who put in a faultless and solid performance. As we reach the halfway point of the season the boys should be proud of themselves of what they have acheived so far,if they keep listening and learning i am sure they will all have a great footballing future in front of them. Well done lads and dont forget if you have been good then the man with the white beard and the red suit will come down your chimney and bring you some fruit……

Arlesey 8-4 Baldock

On a great day when we needed a kite,

The boys put up a really great fight.

With a Twister swirling across the pitch,

The game went well without a hitch.

Lewis began the day with a goal,

And from that point on we were on a roll.

Bailey amazed us with six of the best,

But he couldn't have done it without the rest.

Sam, Alex, Callum, Andrew and Zac,

Stood firm and defended well at the back.

Luke A, Luke O, Ryan and Corey,

Gave 100% to continue the story.

Gary looked like he was ready for snow,

That bobble hat will have to go !

Alex' goal was one to toast,

Glad he hit the net and not the post !

All that was left was one more task,

Come on Marie, get the lid off that flask !

Luke A was man of the match today,

Chin up Corey the X -Factor still has Ray.

Well to the Top Three here we go,

Keep up the hard work and the football will flow !

WELL DONE BOYS !!!

Arlesey 3-1 Bedwell Rangers

The boys eased there way into the last sixteen of the league cup with a gritty perfomance in what was a scrappy game at times.

Football is not all about fancy footwork and skills, sometimes you have to dig deep and grind out results. It took a full twenty minutes for the lads to really get going against a very fit and physical Bedwell side. It was on the twenty first minute that Ryan played in Corey [ I THINK RAY WILL WIN THE X FACTOR TYLER] went through on goal and calmly  nut megged the keeper to put Arlesey one nil up.

The second half was much the same as the first with lots of personal battles going on all over the pitch, then a good move involving Lewis,Bailey and zac led to a great pass to Chris who floated the ball over to see the non stop runner of Brad come steaming in at the back post to make it two nil, the boys then went to sleep for five minutes allowing Bedwell to pull one back with ten minutes remaining, with everybody biting there nails until the choked on there knuckles, there was Bradley once again to put everyones nerves at ease and put the boys into the next round with the best fifteen sides out of all four divisions. Man of the match went to the ever improving Bradley Dobson.

Thanks goes to the officials Nino who was up and down the line running as if he was a celebrity in the jungle being chased by Jan Leeming, and a big thanks to shaun who was definatley the man in the middle, did anyone tell him he could come out of the circle, only joking mate thanks alot xxx

Letchworth Whites 2-6 Arlesey

Arlesey started off brightly with a great run from Bailey who set up Corey who hit the post.

Bailey then used his pace to notch a hat trick, with Callum and Andrew marshalling the defence with help from Zac and Alex, Letchworth hardly had a shot on goal.

A great pass from Lewis set up Bradley who rocketed a shot past the goalie for number 4, then Ryan scored number 5.

In the second half Letchworth applied more pressure and Sam made some great saves. Luke scored a penalty. Later on in the game Letchworth pulled back two goals. Another good team performance from the boys with the holidaying Mr Legate who would be pleased with the result.

Biggleswade Utd 6-6 Arlesey

Gunpowder treason and plot, well the driver of the car leading the Arlesey convoy to Biggleswade had certainly lost the plot and his way.

If we could of charged the  mass ranks of surporters an entrance fee, they would of certainly have got there moneys worth today in what was a very exciting game for the players and fans, but not for the two managers who ended the game almost bald, with everyone getting excited about the fireworks tonight the boys went out knowing it would be a tough game against a big and strong Biggleswade side.

The five roman candles at the back were flickering in the light breeze which they were to face in the first half, these being Sam,Alex,Callum,Andrew, and Zac who probably scored one of his best goals in a Arlesey Town shirt.

The midfield of Luke A,Lewis,Luke O, and Brad were all like Catherine wheels spinning in and out of every bit of space they could find in what was a tight pitch.

The forward line had one sparkler and one rocket, the sparkler being Corey who had spent the night in a five star hotel in Arlesey, this seem to help him because he did sparkle and fizz for sixty minutes.

At the start of the game i went over and lit the rocket, but the reply i got was,i dont like rockets,ok then said the manager today you can be an airbomb which was to go off four times in what were another four quality goals from Bailey. The captain Lewis managed to bang one in after a goalmoth scramble which lasted for about a minute.

The players and parents would also like to welcome back Gary who came on as sub and did an excellent job today.

Maries coffee today was not bad, she recieves eight out of ten for her efforts.A bit more sugar please sugar. All in all another great performance from the boys, have a great bonfire night and a safe one.

Arlesey 6-0  Broadhall Youth

One hundred per cent effort and commitment was given by all eleven players this week, which resulted in a six nil win against a well organised outfit in Broadhall youth.

With half term week coming to an end some lads were still away on there hols which ment we were down to bare bones on this spooky haloween weekend in Arlesey.

The cat himself was in great form between the posts, guarding his area from the howling forwards breathing down on him, on asking sam if he was ok, he replied no paul i am bored, this being the perfect answer to a manager when your keeper has nothing to do for sixty minutes, the defence of Alex,Callum, and Zac were closing everything down as if it was Draculas coffin being slamed in the midnight hour

The midfield  of Luke A, Luke O, and  Brad were like ghosts scaring the life out of the opposition, the forwards of Lewis, Bailey and Corey were like bats out of hell waiting to grab the opputunity to impress the Munsters who had poped down for a spooky burger and some quality football.

All six goals were of a high standard with two from Corey, two from Lewis, one from Bailey and another goal from Bradley.

This week sees us travel to Biggleswade Utd in what is going to be a tough game, lets hope theres lots of fireworks and plenty of rockets fired in.Well done lads...

FC Comets 1-14 Arlesey

The lads travelled to the basement team F.C. Comets in what looked like being a bit of a banana skin on a wet Sunday afternoon in Hitchin.

With five coach loads of vocal fans all shouting and singing in the rain, this helped the boys keep warm and put in a performance that would pleased the watching England manager Steve Mclaren.

The stall was set out with three at the back, four in midfield, and three up front. The game kicked off, with only twenty minutes gone we were five nil up, this seem to confuse the ref and the coaching staff of A.T.F.C. because he decided to blow for half time, after speaking to him he then realised that we were not playing mini soccer anymore, but he said sorry and played forty minutes in the second half, after the lads had got themselves dry and the manager had received the best cup of coffee of the day from Marie Dobson, he told them go out enjoy the second half and play football and see if we could set some club records.

All the goals today came from Corey who banged in two  excellent efforts, along with Lewis who poked one in off the woodwork, Luke A  contributed with two goals one of them being a very rare header from a corner, Bradley treated us to a couple of his usual thunderbolts, one of them coming from a full twenty five yards out, Bailey helped himself to six of the best, one of them involving a seven man move down the right this included Andrew, Ryan, Chris, Luke O and then a Beckam like cross from Brad was met with a bullet header from Bailey.

Being thirteen one up with five minutes to go Sam decided he had had enough of standing around all on his own in goal so he decided to come out on pitch and have a game just to keep warm, on pushing up for a corner he fired in a shot only to see it hit a comet player straight on the arm, penalty was the outcome, so up stepped the only player never to score a goal in an Aleksey  Town shirt Callum, he looked very nervous as all the lads helped him by wishing him good luck. He placed the ball down on the spot, took five steps back and ran up and slotted it away as cool as a cucumber.

When you win by a score line of this nature you wish you had thirteen man of the match awards, but we had to give it to someone who worked very hard and was asked by the manager to go out and get him at least five goals, but he went one better than that scoring six, so it was well done to Bailey on picking up the award this week.

All I can say is well done lads for keeping us all entertained in what was a cold and wet day. Keep up the hard work and effort, and if you are lucky you might get treated to one of Marie’s coffees.

Arlesey 2-4  BSCFC

Football is a game of two half’s and Arlesey certainly lost the first half against top of the table Stortford Rangers, but the second half was more like the Arlesey we know, effort and commitment was there for a full thirty minutes, constant pressure on the Stortford keeper kept him very busy with some great saves from Bailey, Lewis and Corey, but two goals yet again from the forwards Corey and Bailey were just not enough to pull back the scoreline. The lads have to remember we are all in this boat together, if some of you stop rowing it will sink lower and lower, the person that rowed the boat for the whole game was the workhorse at left back, Zac Wilkinson, on doing this he walked away with a big grin on his face, and the man of the match award in his hand.

Fairlands Youth 5-4  Arlesey Town

Our trip to play Fairlands was always going to be tough fixture, playing on a pitch as long as the A1. The boys adapted well to the conditions and played some good football, but they need to remember to concentrate for the first ten minutes and the last ten, because that was where the game was lost.

Alex played his best game so far this season, with some excellent defending. Two nil down after ten minutes the boys decided to get last nights tv and ps2s off of there minds and start to show everyone why they will be up there at the end of the season looking for promotion.

A goal each from the inform strike force of Bradley and Bailey brought the scores back level just before half time, two more goals were tucked away very well from a talented player from Fairlands making it four two.

Then a couple of very strange decisions from the referee leaving all twenty two players baffled with what he had done, when a defender passes the ball back to his keeper there is one thing he should not do, but guess what, he picked it up twice within the space of five minutes, everyone shouted BACKPASS, the wistle goes and the defender is awarded with a free kick work it out if you can, because i can't.

Anyway the ref was not at fault for the five goals which we let in, five two down with ten minutes remaining the lads had one last push and were rewarded with a  lesson from Corey and Bailey on how to put the ball in the back of the net under pressure.

Well done lads, but we must remember our team should work like a car,the lights go on at the start of the journey and go off at the end,but the engine must keep running all the time.

Well done to the man of the match this week Alex for a rock solid performance.

Arlesey 8-1 Baldock Town Lancers

The boys eased there way into the next round of the league cup by doing one thing, playing football and giving one hundred percent effort.

In the first five minutes of the game a great cross came over and there was Lewis rising like a salmon to head the first goal of the game, constant pressure for thirty minutes saw the lads go in at half time five nil up thanks to the in form strike force of Corey and Bailey.

Half time team talk was simple, go out enjoy yourselves and show the ever faithful Arlesey support what we can do. The defense of Chris,Callum,Gary,Andrew,Alex, and Sam were organized and as always listening to instructions shouted from the sidelines, the engine room of the team was ticking over nicely with Luke, Zac, Ryan, and Brad. The forward line with Lewis, Bailey and Corey were scaring the Baldock defense as if it was Halloween that night. Its only early in the season but the strong twenty five thousand paying fans all nibbling all the quality hot dogs that are served up in our  stadium were to witness probably the goal of the season, when the ball was struck everyone run for cover, thinking that N.A.S.A. had sent up another rocket but no, from twenty five yards out Brad unleashed a shot that flew into the net almost pulling the pegs out of the ground, sky tv measured it at 135 mph.

Well done lads you were a credit to everyone connected with A.T.F.C. keep up the good work

Remember it only takes a second to score a goal, if in doubt kick it out If we don’t concede then the manager does not have to shout.

M.O.M. went to the rocket himself Bradley.......

Arlesey 2-0 Biggleswade Utd

Having played a talented and well organised Biggleswade side earlier in a pre season friendly, the boys knew this was going to be a tricky opening start to there new campaign at eleven aside football.

Credit must be given to all thirteen players for giving 100% effort in a scorching Arlesey arena, down at the playing fields.

The manager Paulo Legatti sat the lads down and told them that he wanted to see only two objects coming off of the pitch at the end of the game feeling tired, that was to be Alan Legate the referee and of course the ball.

The defence was a solid as the pitch, due to this hot climate we are having, masterminded by the excellent sweeping of Callum, followed by his fellow defenders Gary, Zac, Alex, Andrew and of course the cat himself Sam. The midfield was like a brand new engine in a car purring away like a conted cat sitting in front of the fire watching the X factor. Luke, Ryan, Brad, Chris, were all quality keeping the engine ticking over nicely. Spearheading the attack like greyhounds waiting to come out of the traps were Bailey,Lewis and two goal man The robot Corey.

To finish off  we just want to say thanks to the ref and a big thankyou to John Parker and his boys for a very sporting match in very difficult conditions. This Sunday sees the boys involved in league cup action against Baldock Town at home KO 1.30pm. Well done to all of the lads, a great start to hopefully a promising season ahead.  Man of the match went to the consistant  rock at the back callum for an outstanding performance
