Arlesey 2-4 Potton Colts The final game of the season for the boys and not a bad effort seen as yet again we had to play with only eleven players. It all started well enough with the ball being moved around well by the home team although there was little penetration. Unfortunately it was defensive error after defensive error that led to all of the goals against the blues but that has been the story of our season. The boys did not give up however and scored two great goals the first from Charlie Wright who turned quickly in the box to unleash a great shot into the corner of the net. The second was a free kick that Ronaldinho would have been proud of from James Fletcher who curled the ball in to the top right hand corner where it flew in off the post. The boys have had a very indifferent season but they should all look for the positive angle and try to build on what they have achieved personally throughout the season. The management team are disbanding now and some of the players will also move on, mainly due to the fact that we cannot seem to get a squad together (as the last three games have shown). Paul Ison has stated that he will try to keep the team together and Dave and I wish him luck and hope he can bring better successes to the team than have befell us this season. Thanks to everyone who has helped us over the last few seasons and all the best to you all. If you have not voted for the supporters player of the year and wish to please contact Either Dave or I and we will register your vote. ArleseyTown 2-1 Pin Green It was the last throw of the tactical dice today and it worked a treat. The boys finally put in a performance that they should all be extremely proud of and in doing so got the blues got back to winning ways. For the first time this season I feel that everyone who played deserves a mention so here goes, Kyle Hookway was as safe as ever in goal and made one superb point blank save, all of the defence were magnificent, James Fletcher was quick and never put a foot wrong, Charlie Wright was immense in the middle strong and forceful in everything he did, Jake Burns held it all together constantly talking and directing proceedings and Scott Lumgair on the left was steady he never looked flustered and scared the opposition when he went forward. The midfield grafted throughout, Thomas Williams was a great outlet knocking through some great passes, George Brown never stopped running and scored the winning goal picking up a cross field ball and driving it into the net. Liam Ison scurried around all over the pitch never letting the opposition settle , he scored the opener, his first of the season a quality finish from the edge of the box. Scott Stiles gave another solid performance getting stuck in at every opportunity. Connor Pattison worked tirelessly throughout chasing every ball and he was worrying the opposition defence time and time again, Peter Benham was as cool as ever linking the game up with some steady passing into feet and last but not least Brett Jeeves who when he came on was quick and dangerous going forward. The lads did great and now need to take this performance and carry it through to the last couple of games of the season. Letchworth GCE Blues 7-2 Arlesey Another poor result for the blues today but some of the lads can take some credit away as in places we played some good football. It all started well with James Fletcher Jake Burns and Charlie Wright all linking well and passing the ball around nicely and it was this group who opened the scoring with a smart passing move which was finished by Burns. After this it all went a bit pear shaped with what I would have to say was possibly the worst defensive performance I have ever seen. There was poor decision making and even poorer tackling that lead to the home team running away into an unassailable lead. Arlesey did score a second when Charlie Wright outpaced the Letchworth defence and dropped his shoulder before finishing into the bottom corner. It was nice finish for Charlie who had earlier had a penalty saved. As stated the blues played some good football and they did create chances that on a different day would have been finished and it would have been a totally different scoreline but it was not to be today. Arlesey 2-6 Hormead Hares A rather indifferent display today from the blues that has lead to another defeat. From the start the away team were in the ascendancy and played with confidence clearing their lines well and using their very quick striker to good ends. They took an early lead and added two more in quick succession before the home team really got in to any sort of pattern. Arleseys’ first came from Jake Burns who picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and deftly chipped the goalkeeper who had moved off of his line. Hormead were now making the blues defence work overtime and we struggled to cope although Scott Lumgair was solid and made a couple of good interceptions as did the much improving Scott Stiles. The away team scored another before Charlie Wright got his name on the score sheet firing a shot above the keeper into the top of the net. The blues never really clicked at all today and Hormead took all three points with comparative ease scoring two more before the end. We must remain positive but it grows increasingly difficult. We are now losing far more than we win, the management team have tried numerous tactical options as well as trying to inspire the lads to have some confidence in their own ability but at this stage it is just not working, we will persevere and we just hope that the boys do to and try to lift themselves for a good winning end to the season. Arlesey 1-3 Shefford Saints Whites Arlesey town Football Club allowed us to host Shefford which was a lovely treat for all the boys. The lads went out for a warm up then back in the changing rooms it took me back as manager to my playing days and if truth be known I was more exited than the kids.Rob Burns was forced to work so the lads had to try there hardest to get a result for him. We came out of the blocks very quickly and Scott Lumgair caused them all sorts of problems down the left flank.Shefford played direct football and with there pace up front and soon went 2-0 up against the run of play. After two or three attacks shefford handballing on the goal line after a fine James Fletcher strike and was awarded a penalty.Wright stepped up ,struck it well but the keeper with strong hands pushed the ball out a good save.Arlesey was not going to give up easily and captain Burns stepped up and scored contender for goal of the season as the ball came out to about 22yrds a first time thunder bolt flew in clipping the underside of the bar on its journey a stunning strike..Into the second half and Arlesey were pushing for the equaliser got caught short at the back and shefford made it 3.Liam Ison had a very solid game as did George brown and James fletcher should have scored after a blistering run but couldn't finish final score 3-1 Man of the Match Jake Burns for controlling the midfield and a stunning goal. Much better performance from the Lads.Although its time to start winning now. |

Stevenage Boro Blues 3-1 Arlesey A poor result for the boys that saw most of our supporters shaking their heads in disbelief at the end. The away team should have been confident going into this game having given a good account of themselves against top of the league last week but as has been the case recently there appeared to be a massive lack of confidence and cohesion in the team. Arlesey started well enough pushing the ball wide for Charlie Wright and Scott Lumgair to chase but the final ball was lacking. They started to push up a little and were caught short at the back as the home team took the lead. Heads seemed to drop a bit and any kind of teamwork we could find vanished and before the break the boys went two nil down. However it was not all one way with Jake Burns hitting the outside of the post and Charlie Wright heading wide. As the second half got under way the blues rallied and tried to play some football, and they pulled one back when Peter Benham launched a high ball into a crowded goal area it bounced no one attacked, not even the Borough keeper, and it bounced into the corner of the net. More chances went begging Burns hitting the post again and skying one over from close range. The boys pushed up looking for the equaliser and it was here that they were caught as the home team scored a third that finished this game. Much to be learned from a game like this lets just hope the boys do just that. ArleseyTown- HOOKWAY, ISON, BROWN, BENHAM, WILLIAMS, BURNS, FLETCHER, LUMGAIR, WRIGHT, PATTISON, STILES, ROWE, JEEVES. Arlesey 0-6 Fairlands Youth Even though the scoreline may not look that good this was a better performance than in recent weeks. This report will not go into to much depth about the goals as the management feel that it is more important to look at the positives from the game so that the lads can build for the future and the rest of the season. Firstly it should be noted that the opponents today have not lost all season and are champions elect, the management decided to change things around slightly and we had a lot of lads playing out of position to try to counter the strong opposition. All of the lads did well and the following should be commended, during the first half James Fletcher was a menace up front with his pace playing alone he gave the opposition plenty to think about. The lads at the back Williams, Burns, Brown and Lumgair (at the start) did well and tried to hold the line and did manage to catch Fairlands offside a couple of times. All the midfield battled and got stuck in and it was from here that we found our man of the match, Scott Stiles, he gave a tough battling performance breaking down attacks regularly and trying to play the ball sensibly when he had it. We did score two own goals today but they were both conceded by players giving their all to clear the ball and at the level we play they most certainly will not get chastised for that. Hopefully the lads will take the positives from this game and push on for that all elusive victory next week. Arlesey 1-1 Sandy Colts Another draw for the blues today but it could have been three points had they applied themselves through the whole game as they did in the last five minutes. It was not much of a spectacle for any of the watching supporters as neither team really played any sort of decent football for any length of time and the home team really need to learn to apply themselves better and have some confidence in their ability and try to find some will to win the ball and play the game as we know they can. It was the away team who took the lead bursting through the middle of Arlesey’s defence before slotting past the keeper. James Fletcher had his best game for some time always looking dangerous down the right hand side and using his pace to great effect and yet again Kyle Hookway was solid as a rock in goal though thankfully he had a lot less to do than he has had to in recent games. We had to wait until the second half for the equaliser to come after Jason Rowe and Jake Burns linked up on the left before Burns forced over a cross into the middle where Charlie Wright was waiting to slot the ball into the corner of the net. The game came to a close with the blues really pushing the away team back but it was all too little too late. The boys are coming to a stage in the season where they really should being playing, as a team with some cohesion and spirit but this seems to be lacking at the moment. To end on a positive note the boys are still a hard to beat team but they should really take a long hard look at themselves as a team and ask “can we do better” I know what my answer would be. Arlesey 1-1 Hitchin Town Another point earned by the boys ,or was it two points lost. Having drawn with the opposition in the away game this was always going to be a tight affair and even more so with only 11 players available and one of those coming off of his sickbed to make up the numbers (well done Jake everybody appreciated the effort you made today). The game itself was bitty and with the pitch starting to get a bit heavy under foot it was difficult for all of the players to play any nice flowing football thus leaving us a game with little to talk about. It was the blues who took the lead in the first half some concerted pressure on the Hitchin goal allowed Charlie Wright to steal into the box and direct a firm shot into the bottom corner of the net. It stayed the same up to half time. The second half was Hitchins in truth, Arlesey started to play a nice tight offside trap which caught the opposition out a great many times but that only went to prove who was attacking more. Kyle Hookway was superb in the Arlesey goal commanding the whole of his area taking the ball cleanly just about every time he had to , I can safely say that I have not seen a better goalkeeper in our league than Kyle at the moment he is keeping us in the game virtually every week and as I am sure that Kyle will like the plaudits it does not speak very highly of the rest of the team and I am sure he would like a nice quiet game next week with nothing to do! Th equaliser came from a break away as Arlesey were punished for not being decisive enough at the back. Potton Colts 2-2 ArleseyTown Overall a better performance from the boys but it was still lacking in to many areas to let us believe that the tough times are completely over. Unfortunately th blues started just as they had finished last week , poorly, they allowed the home team time on the ball and from this they managed to dictate much of the early play. Potton opened the scoring from a corner which the lads failed to clear, they followed up with a second a short while later following a defensive error. The second half was somewhat of a turn around as Arlesey pushed forward and gave the home team a torrid time at the back. The first goal from the away team was a gift as the goal keeper tried to clear his lines he smacked the ball into Charlie Wrights backside who quickly turned and fired the ball past the bemused keeper. Chances came and went after this but the boys battled, with Joe Chapman running the midfield sending some fantastic passes down the channels as well as throwing his weight about in all the right areas and finally we drew level from an indirect free kick after the home teams keeper had picked up a back pass again it was Charlie Wright who smashed the ball home from about seven yards out. The blues carried on pushing but to no avail, they come away with a point but at this stage of the season we need just that little bit more. Arlesey 2-4 BS Rovers The lads were beaten comprehensively today and there can be no excuses. It all started well enough with both teams having their fair share of the possession and the home team broke the deadlock with the move of the game Jason Rowe and Scott Lumgair linking up well with a nice one two, just outside the area before Scott slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper. The game carried on as it had started with both teams playing a little bit of football before the away team equalized. The blues came back into it with a 25 yard stunner of a free kick from Thomas Williams which should have heralded more goals but all of a sudden Arlesey could not even kick the ball, you may think that is harsh to say but I watched it and would challenge anyone who saw it differently. So with the boys struggling to do the basics the away team walked through our defence and plundered three more goals. It should be added that Arlesey did not give up and chased everything trying to get back in the game but when you cant or don’t do the basics it will all be in vain as it was today. Kyle Hookway was great in goal today and made a couple of fine saves to keep the scoreline reasonable, he was given man of the match. Ashwell Accies 8-2 Arlesey The cup run is over beaten soundly by the better team. The boys were told that this would be tough and that they would have to play to the best of their abilities but sadly it was just not happening today. The beginning of the first half was difficult for the blues with the home team knocking the ball around well and with them slotting some defense splitting passes through the Arlesey defence, the lads coped well but did concede a couple of goals that really if they had been on top of their game they wouldn’t have. However as the half closed they showed some Arlesey pride and put together some nice moves that caused Ashwell a few problems. The second half started and the blues should have been buoyant but for some reason that went back in their shells and started making mistakes and basically showed little or no confidence in their own ability. Yet again though the boys rallied and Jake Burns especially started to dictate things in the middle of the park and it was Jake’s run from wide on the right that bought a penalty as he was hauled down in the box. Charlie Wright who was under the weather and should be commended for his effort fired the ball into the top of the net. The blues then started to push on and got the second, a contender for goal of the season by Peter Benham as he hit a shot from way outside the area that looped over the keeper into the net. Unfortunately as the boys pushed on looking for more goals they left gaps at the back and the home team completed the rout. A special mention should go to goal keeper Kyle Hookway as even though he conceded eight he hardly made a mistake the whole game and showed great bravery and ability even saving a penalty, by my recollection the second time he has done that this season. Man of the match however went to Jake Burns who put in a captains performance getting stuck in and trying to create chances in difficult circumstances. As the managers favourite saying goes ‘lets put that one behind ya’ boys. ArleseyTown 1-0 Symonds Green As the saying goes ‘it’s a funny old game’ last week we played some lovely football and came away with nothing and today we played with no direction at all and we get all three points! Perhaps no direction at all is a bit harsh but it was disappointing that this weeks display was not as polished as last weeks even though we got the points. The game as a whole was scrappy neither team really took control and it is difficult to pick out any real highlights, again that is no slur on the lads it was just one of those games that didn’t take off. The goal was another from top scorer Charlie Wright firing in from close range at the back post following a cross from the right hand side. There was some exciting goal mouth action but that was purely down to both teams ball watching and failing to clear quickly enough. The blues can be proud that they battled and got the result and most importantly that they did not concede this week. Scott Lumgair was awarded man of the match for a tough tackling display and for the fact that he got involved in the game much more this week. The boys go into the last sixteen of the league cup next week on the back of a win so it can’t be all-bad now can it. Hormead Hares 4-3 Arlesey The blues learnt a tough lesson today, mistakes cost matches. In what was a good game of football to watch it was a shame that the boys didn’t take something from it, but defensive errors meant that the league leaders took all three points. Arlesey conceded early following a mistake in the heart of the defence but quickly got back into it when Charlie Wright was hauled down in the area, he picked himself up and blasted the spot kick at the keeper who could only parry it into the corner of his net. The blues started to play some nice football and special mention should be made to midfielders Jake Burns, Joe Chapman and James Fletcher who knocked the ball around well and caused all sorts of problems for the home team. It was Fletcher who set up Wright for his second sending in a flighted cross which the striker controlled at the back post before slotting it into the net. Hormead drew level with a super strike which was the only goal they scored that could not be attributed to defensive error. As the second half wore on Arlesey fell asleep at the back failing to clear their lines and not attacking the ball and the home team went into an unassailable 4-2 lead. Charlie Wright pulled another back late on to complete his hat trick but today it was just not enough although it did earn him the man of the match award. The lads never gave up and could not be faulted for their effort and the fact that they played without two regulars who were out through illness and injury. B S Rovers 1-1 Arlesey A hard fought draw for the blues this week but it could have been so much more had it not been for a poor refereeing decision. The game itself was entertaining to watch in the main but neither team could take control as the final result showed. The first half was poor from the away team Stortford had most of the play and virtually all of the goal attempts hitting a post and making Kyle Hookway make some great saves. Arlesey struggled to get their passing game going with far to many balls not reaching their chosen target and what should have been easy clearances just not being dealt with competently. As the second half got under way Arlesey started to play with a bit more gusto and the midfield started to dominate however that doesn’t matter when the ref ‘s decision go against you. A Stortford midfielder picked the ball up on the left wing and took it wide in fact so side that the ball crossed the touchline by a good foot the touchline assistant flagged but the referee did not see him play went on and the home team opened the scoring. The assistant called the referees’ attention to the matter but he waved him and the protests from the away supporters away and allowed the goal to stand. Arlesey replied almost immediately with Jake Burns taking possession of the ball as it bobbled in the area he forced his way past one challenge and sheer will took him past another the ball got away from him but Charlie Wright was on hand to smash the ball into the net from close range. The game was pretty much end to end after that with both teams creating chances that they could not finish. The man of the match award had to be given to two players this week as they both has solid games, Peter Benham was dominant at the back and when in possession his distribution was always good and Jake Burns who gave a captains performance running the midfield and instigating most of the blues chances in front of goal. A special fashion icon award goes to manager Dave Wright this week who after a hectic evening socialising on Saturday managed to turn up to the game wearing a nice formal long sleeved shirt with a t shirt over the top, not even David Beckham is that trendy. Arlesey 2-0Stevenage Boro Juniors This was not a particularly great game for the spectators but that had nothing to do with the two teams on show more down to the horrendous weather. It was always going to be a scrappy affair as the wind and rain lashed across the recreation ground right from the off. Credit should be given to both teams who carried on regardless and tried to make the best of it. Arlesey were in command for most of the match although there were momentary lapses, which could have let the visitors in. The first goal came from some tidy build up work in the midfield, the ball was pushed down the channel to Charlie Wright who struck a firm shot goal ward which the keeper failed to hold and the ball slipped into the corner of the net. The blues played with five in the midfield for much of the game and held the ball up well, Liam Ison was as solid as a rock in the right back position coming onto the ball well and always trying to look for the simple option to keep moves flowing. He was rightly awarded man of the match for his efforts. The blues had other excellent chances but today was not going to be a goal feast. The second goal came after some concerted pressure from the home team down the right wing. Jake Burns picked the ball up just inside the eighteen-yard box and headed for the byline before firing the ball toward goal, the Stevenage defender slid in and the ball was in the back of the net. The management team awarded the goal to Jake. The boys did well in some awful conditions and got the all-important three points. Fairlands Yth 4-0 ArleseyTown This was always going to be a tough game against opponents who will be challenging for the division three title this season. It was a good entertaining game even though it was somewhat dictated by the strong wind. The blues started well and caused a few problems for the home team the closest being when Thomas Williams fired a free kick just over the bar. The boys went in to half time one nil down when a defensive error let in the home team. The second half was a more one sided affair with the home team playing some excellent football. The further three goals the boys conceded were all of the highest quality the last being the pick of the bunch when the Fairlands midfielder volleyed into the net from the edge of the box. Arlesey did have chances, Joe Chapman shooting over the bar from close range. Though the score maybe does not reflect it but the fact is all the boys played well, Kyle Hookway was man of the match making a couple of fine saves and keeping the score respectable. It is unlikely we will play many better teams than this so the boys should keep their chins up and look forward to the next match. Sandy Colts Yth 1-2 ArleseyTown A first and much deserved league win for the blues today. This was always going to be a tough outing for the away team against a solid team who are flying high in the league. The game was pretty much end to end at the start with both teams playing some tidy football and creating chances in front of goal. The breakthrough came when Arlesey pushed forward from the midfield and applied some decent pressure, the ball was fired in to the goal area and Charlie Wright showed great technique in drilling the ball low into the corner of the net. The second half was in much the same vein as the first with both teams competing well and playing some entertaining football and it wasn’t long before the home team came back into it.The ball was played onto the edge of the area and the defence, who until that point had been solid, failed to clear leaving the Sandy striker to place the ball past the Arlesey keeper. The blues rallied at this point and began to hold the ball up better in the oppositions half, which led to the second goal and the move of the game.Jake Burns picked the ball up just inside his own half and with one quick look up sent a 20 yard pass that David Beckham would have been proud of over to the right wing where James Fletcher took it in his stride before going past one defender and into the box, his pace caught the covering defender out and all he could do was bring James down for a certain penalty. There was only one player who was taking this and Fletcher smashed it into the top of the net. Again this week all of the boys should be proud of this solid team performance, man of the match went to James Fletcher who was a constant danger out on the right and a fantastic outlet throughout the game. Bishops Stortford Rovers 2-4 ArleseyTown The boys were asked to play some football and today they certainly did just that. The opening to the game was some what strange to say the least, the away team started to knock the ball around nicely but found themselves two nil down within the first ten minutes. The first goal followed some slack defensive work and the opposition lobbing Kyle Hookway and the second a short while later was a total mix up between defence and goalkeeper as they all waited for each other to deal with a cross and the cheeky home striker nipped in to tuck the ball away. It would be easy to say now that the management and fans of the blues were confident that we could pull it back but the way the boys were knocking the ball about they really were! The first goal came from slick passing in the midfield before Charlie Wright shot the keeper saved by Scott Lumgair kept his head and drilled the ball low into the corner. The football being played now was the best we have played all season, Jake Burns was linking everything in the midfield and slotting through some fine passes for the boys up front.Charlie Wright got the second and shortly after the third as the away team held the home teams goal under siege. The fourth goal was a Roberto Carlos special from Thomas Williams, the free kick was at least ten yards outside the area and the rest of the team did their jobs keeping the defence busy whilst Williams pulled the trigger smashing the ball into the top of the net. There were no goals in the second half but the football was just as entertaining as the blues showed just what they are capable of producing. A fine performance that the whole team should be proud of, man of the match went to Jake Burns. HOOKWAY,ISON,BROWN,BENHAM,WILLIAMS,CHAPMAN,BURNS,FLETCHER,LUMGAIR,WRIGHT,STILES,ROWE,JEEVES. |

ARLESEYTOWN 2-3 LETCHWORTH GCE BLUES It was a scrappy game where none of these teams really took the initiative but the away team certainly took the three points on offer. The game did not start that quickly and there was not one real football move for the first ten minutes until the away team took the lead direct from a corner, not muh any team can do about that happening. It was at this point that the blues lost any grasp they had in this first half, not pressing the opposition an most certainly not getting into any sort of passing game, Letchworth scored again before the break mainly own to some defensive work from the home team.True to the fom of last season suddenly Arlesey came out in the second half with all gun blazing James Fletcher wide on the right started to run at the opposition as well as link up well with the front line and Jake Burns and Charlie Wright went close but both know they should have put those chances away. It Scott Lumgair who got the boys back into the game with a strong finish coming in from the left and a short while later he levelled things up but chipping the ball over the outcoming keeper. Now the crowd expected to see the boys turn the screw a little bit and finish the job off. However it was not to be as the visitors had not given up and as they pushed forward once again and the back line failed to clear the ball was driven across the goal, the keeper failed to collect and the Letchworth striker was left with an easy tap in. James Fletcher picked up the man of the match award for a solid second half performance. The boys should be disappointed with this result as the second half showed what they are capable of when they come out and play with some passion and belief in their ability.

Hitchin Town Yth 2-2 Arlesey To quote the manager ‘that is the worst performance I have ever seen these lads produce’ sort of sums up this match. The game was scrappy and without being too harsh Arlesey did not string two passes together. The home team scored first when the blues failed to clear the ball and it took a Charlie Wright shot from a corner to equalize. Peter Benham was solid at the back and appeared to be the only player who was not in a panic every time the ball came to him, he received the man of the match award for his efforts. The blues also managed to give away a penalty in the second half but Kyle Hookway pulled off a good save. Amazingly Arlesey went into the lead when Charlie Wright got his second but it was short lived as for the umpteenth time in this game the defence failed to clear a simple bouncing ball in the area and Hitchin levelled the score. There was very little positive to take from this game ,Charlie was industrious up front and took his goals well and we are now it would seem quite a difficult team to beat even when we play this badly. Some tough training sessions coming up for the lads in the future.

LEAGUE CUP Arlesey 4-1 Sawbridgeworth Blues 1 A fine win for the blues today, which sees them through to the next round of the cup. The home team really did hit the ground running this week and put the opposition under tremendous pressure from the first minute. The first goal did not take long to come and it came by the way of set piece, Thomas Williams firing across a corner from the left hand side and Charlie Wright was unchallenged as he thundered his header into the back of the net. The Arlesey pressure remained relentless and we went two up this time from a cross from the right which came over at waist height Charlie Wright was leaning back but he managed to get his right foot around the ball to volley it home in a fashion that would have made Mark Hughes proud. As the home team pushed forward it was only a matter of time before the third arrived the ball was played into the box where a mêlée ensued before an attempted clearance was handled in the box. There was only one player who was going to take it, Charlie Wright, and he fired it into the roof of the net. The fourth goal came from some fantastic running from Scott Lumgair who picked the ball up wide on the left his pace took him away from the defender as he cut inside another defender came across and crudely tried to take his legs but Scott kept going before sliding the ball into the corner of the net off a post. The second half was placid in comparison and the away team managed to pull one back as the blues lost momentum. Joe Chapman had a solid game in midfield as did Jake Burns who just missed with a header over the bar late on. The back four never looked overly troubled and Thomas Williams’s distribution was first class. A special mention should go to stand in keeper Scott Stiles who put in a great performance at short notice. Man of the match went to hat trick hero Charlie Wright.

Shefford Whites 1-1 ArleseyTown A first league point for the blues but it could have been so much more as yet again the lads tried to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Shefford possibly expected an easy game today having recently beaten us three one in a friendly but the boys put on a magnificent battling display and ran the whole match. The first half started well with Arlesey dominating and playing some nice football without really testing the Shefford keeper and when the home team did break away the blues defence and midfield held firm with Liam Ison and Joe Chapman giving particularly accomplished displays. The first half finished with Jake Burns drifting a free kick just outside the area just over the bar.The second half carried on in the same vein until an unfortunate mistake from Kyle Hookway in the Arlesey goal, a low cross was driven in which slipped in between the keepers legs and the Shefford striker finished from no more than half a yard out. This mistake seemed to spur the lads on even more and it wasn’t long before they had pulled it back, Scott Lumgair picked the ball up on the left and using his pace and strength he cut inside the defender before firing his shot into the corner of the goal. Arlesey really pushed on from here and both Charlie Wright and James Fletcher had one on one chances with the Shefford keeper who pulled off to good saves to deny them. The game finished a draw but it could so easily have been an away win for the lads, Scott Lumgair was awarded man of the match for his tireless running and effort but it could have gone to any one of the team who all played their part in this excellent performance. Symonds Green 2-0 Arlesey It is very difficult to summarise a game that we dominated for long periods but did not really test their keeper and ended up losing. The game started well enough for the blues as they controlled the game for the first fifteen minutes without really penetrating in the final third of the pitch.Symonds Green took the lead against the run of play, it could go down to keeper error but on such a greasy surface it would be harsh, the ball bobbled about just inside the Arlesey area before the Symonds Green player struck it low and hard it zipped off of the wet grass before Kyle Hookway could move. Again the second half was all Arlesey but again without them looking dangerous in front of the home teams goal.As the game wore on Arlesey pushed forward looking for the equaliser, James Fletcher had a certain penalty claim turned down when he was clearly obstructed in the area and even with a massive amount of corners the boys could not breakthrough. It was during one spell of pressure that Symonds Green broke away and stole a second goal. George Brown was immense at the back and the few times that the goal was threatened he dealt with the threat proficiently.as the game came to and end Arlesey were awarded a penalty as Jake Burns was scythed down from behind as he bore down on goal, Scott Lumgair stepped up to take the penalty but unfortunately he blasted it straight at the keeper who pushed it away. There are a lot of positives for the boys to take away from this first league eleven a side game but they really have to up the concentration levels and start being a little more clinical in front of goal.
